“Clean and simple”
Reviewed February 14, 2012

We stayed here for 4 nights in total in two different bedrooms. The first room was huge and had many corners were mosquitoes can hide. The night spent in this room (#1, I think), was uncomfortable due to the many mosquitoes that seemed to appear out of nowhere. This room should come with a mosquito net. The second room was smaller but much more comfortable as there were very few places where they could hide making them easier to kill before going to sleep. The staff at this place is the drawing card- very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is also very good. The rooms are merely functional- dated and in need of some updating especially the bedsheets. The property itself is very attractive but again in need of some TLC. The location is not the most convenient but if you don't mind a short walk to the bus stop that takes you to the centre, then it's fine. Overall, there aren't many good hotel options in Manaus. If the owner were to make some repairs to the property, this place would actually be a very good choice. Considering the drawbacks, we still had a pleasant stay overall.

Room Tip: avoid the large room

Mauro, the proprietor, and his entire staff made us feel right at home. In fact, Mauro drove us to a fine restaurant on our first night in town and helped us interpret the menu which was in Portuguese, of course. And then he helped plan our meal with the head waiter. Breakfasts by the pool are delicious with fresh squeezed juices and a wide variety of bread, meat and fruit selections. The facility is clean and comfortable and within walking distance of the city's new mall. If I come to Manaus again I certainly will stay at Chez Les Rois.

My wife and I recently (December 28, 2011) spent 2 nights prior to boarding the Pacific Princess back to Ft Lauderdale. We were absolutely thrilled with our stay. Mauro picked us at the airport with a warm and welcoming personality that lasted until he dropped us off at the ship 3 days later. The Pousada was built by his father and is charming and cozy. The air conditioned rooms are simple, clean, and comfortable. Breakfast by the pool was a treat with the staff very attentive and the meal a typical fruit, cereal, meat, cheese buffet in addition to eggs prepared to your request. The cinnamon rolls were fantastic! A great value for an experienced traveler looking for a home away from home rather than an impersonal hotel.

A lovely, comfortable house with a "colonial" atmosphere - very friendly staff who try their best with foreign languages. They kept our luggage for us while we went on a 2 night Amazon trip. Super breakfasts with masses of fresh tropical fruit, served by the pool. A nice quiet street, but only 10 minutes by taxi to the noisy town centre and the port. Close to shops and a good restaurant.

Room Tip: Room 4 is a family room and has a balcony overlooking the pool and garden

Excellent place in Manaus, the gate to the Amazon tours. The city is dreadful, all dirty and polluted, but this place is a real gem with large rooms, several sitting areas, a small pool that looks very inviting as it is old and the best breakfast I had since I started travelling here including fresh fruits, fried bananas and lots more

Highly recommended. If you want to know more read on: http://setfreelamericatrip2011.blogspot.com/

We have stayed in small guest houses in Thailand, Cambodia, Tanzania and now Brazil, we also camp so we sleep outdoors in tents on inflatable mattresses. If it wasn't for the great staff at Chez Les Rois we would have given it a all around poor rating. The sheets are very old , permanently stained and need replacing as do the matresses. There were holes in all the screens in the windows, (we stayed in two different rooms) a hole in the bathroom wall was covered with a piece of paper taped over it. Wires were taped to the wall instead of simple fasteners. Tiles on the floors had broken loose and just left in place. The staff made Chez Les Rois, they let us use their personal computer to arrange flights, helped us with directions and taxis. We stayed here going and leaving a Amazon tour. Our flights departed at 3am, staff not only called taxis but made us toasted sandwiches and fresh juice before we left. The location is a 5-10 minute taxi to downtown Manaus, but within walking distance of nice restaurants, Atm's and stores. If the owner does some minor renovations, buys new sheets and fixes the screens, the great staff will make this an excellent guesthouse.

Beds were really bad, giving me back problems. No hot water, but that was OK in hot Manaus. Air conditioning worked which was a great help. Couldn't understand why you hve to put your toilet paper in the trash can - not very sanitary. Rooms need an updating. looks lood on floor. Watch outside by the pool as there is uneven surfaces and sudden drops in heights which made me fall and hurt my leg. High steps to get to second floor and breakfast.
Staff were great - especially the one who spoke some English - sorry forgot your name. But very very helpful.
Breakfast was good and a nice variety.
The area is quiet and the guests were also quiet. Just the horrible bed. A camping mattress would have been more comfortable. Torn sheets ???
some TLC is needed.

Room Tip: Don't choose these rooms if you have back problems
