We were planning to stop there as it sounded fantastic and exactly the type of place we like to go, but after checking it's website, it is only open Friday and Saturdays. Too bad for us. I gave it a high rating so as to not bring the ratings down.

For the view of the great lakes (little walk up a hill) and the gift shop! Awesome! The lookout makes you feel like you are on top of the world (Lake Michigan) and well worth the walk to the top if you are fit enough. The gift shop has plenty of items for everyone....I mean anyone.

We had no idea this museum was in Alma, but our hotel owner highly recommended it so we decided to give it a try. Definitely worth the time. This museum is very nicely arranged with beautiful displays. Everything is very informative and interesting, even for young children. The staff is wonderful and took time to talk with our children about the exhibits, they even had real chain mail for the kids to try on. It was a great addition to our stop in Alma.

If you're into history and art this is the place for you. The museum is housed on two levels. It's not a huge museum but it's filled with a vast quality collection of arms and armor to tour throughout. Highlights include a sword carried in the first crusade, and King Henry VIII's gun shield and more! If you're into period art it merges well with these collections, one even being a giant mural they blew up on the wall. Everything blends into the history rather well. The collection was lovingly put together with the passion of one individual over the years and continuing in the culmination of the museum's opening in 2011. Situated in lovely Alma, WI you'll find it easily as the exterior looks less museum and more period fitting to the subject at hand. Creative touches are found throughout even in the woman's bathroom where art is housed on the wall. Be sure and take a peek. You might hear some tales from the owner or get to try on chain mail. Remember no flash photography but you're free to take photos throughout.

Nearby highlights include Rieck's Nature Preserve (tundra swans, goose and duck families and more) and up above Buena Vista Overlook.
