“Excellent pizza and views”
Reviewed October 13, 2013

What a terrific find this restaurant was, especially among all of the restaurants serving the same type fare in Yumani. To get there, once you're near the top of the hill in Yumani, there are two signs for "organic vegetarian food/pizza". Follow these signs and walk through a beautiful eucalyptus forest for about 200m. Do yourself a favour and get there before sunset. We had drinks and played cards outside on one of the wooden benches, watching the stunning sunset. Once the sun was set we made our way inside as it does get cold fast. The menu isn't large but what they serve is very good. The vegetarian pizza we had was probably the best pizza we had in Bolivia (and we had a lot of pizzas!). There was just something about the crust that made it flaky and delicious. We also had the trout which itself was very good. The vegetables and quinoa that came with it could have used some extra flavour with seasonings.

The service was friendly and the atmosphere inside was quaint and romantic. We finished off the meal with a warm Bolivian wine drink which was a delicious ending to a perfect meal.

“THE BEST FOOD WE HAD IN BOLIVIA, IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE!”
Reviewed October 9, 2013

We were told amazing things about this place back in Copa Cabana, so we took a late afternoon ferry to isla del sol, found a hostel, and headed to the highest point of the island using a map (just like we were told). We walked on a creepy trail in the forest under moonlight, and finally made it to the top, where we saw the house with dim light inside.

Pablo interrupted his cooking to come and greet us, showed us an available table, opened a bottle of wine for the people on the table behind us, and went back in the kitchen. It's a one man business, the owner takes his time and takes pleasure cooking great food and entertaining customers (don't go there if you are in a hurry).

W had a great dinner under candle lights, ate really good food (lasagna was yum!) and sipped a couple of good local red wine bottles.

“Home made organic dinner in candle light”
Reviewed August 26, 2013 via mobile

We had thee most delicious, fresh meal here. The best we have had in Bolivia, from the service provided by the waiter who was also the cook and owner, we had a really enjoyable night. Highly recommend the trout and the traditional warm Bolivian drink I think it was called Kai! Would highly recommend!

“Best home-cooking so far in Bolivia”
Reviewed July 4, 2013

Las Velas makes you feel at home, from the personal attention from the cook and owner to the simple, but extremely tasty and filling food. And let me redefine 'simple" - the meal was prepared with more attention and seasoning than most Bolivian restaurants, so by Bolivian standards, it was fancy! My companions and I left highly satisfied with our meat and trout dishes, and the wine (both cold and warm varieties) left us well-insulated against the cold. The owner was very friendly, and we had a great conversation about island politics and history.

“Possibly the Highest Altitude Pizza in the world?”
Reviewed July 1, 2013

We stumbled across this little gem on our recent trip to Isla Del Sol and as others have said, it completed what had already been an awesome experience. We had the place to ourselves and were able to sit back and enjoy the most gorgeous vista from 4010m above sea level while Pablo whipped up one of his famous vegetarian pizzas. As Pablo makes everything from scratch (with veges from his garden) and with no electricity, you should be prepared for a wait. However, the resulting pizza was the best I´ve had and even my partner (a serious carnivore) had to admit it was delicious.
DIRECTIONS: From South beach, follow the main track up to the very top of the island. You will reach a fork at which you can go either right or left. Go left and walk about 150m and you should find it. It´s right next to a gum forest. Pablo was making up more signs on the day we visited, so hopefully it will be easy to find in the future.
