Las Velas makes you feel at home, from the personal attention from the cook and owner to the simple, but extremely tasty and filling food. And let me redefine 'simple" - the meal was prepared with more attention and seasoning than most Bolivian restaurants, so by Bolivian standards, it was fancy! My companions and I left highly satisfied with our meat and trout dishes, and the wine (both cold and warm varieties) left us well-insulated against the cold. The owner was very friendly, and we had a great conversation about island politics and history.

We stumbled across this little gem on our recent trip to Isla Del Sol and as others have said, it completed what had already been an awesome experience. We had the place to ourselves and were able to sit back and enjoy the most gorgeous vista from 4010m above sea level while Pablo whipped up one of his famous vegetarian pizzas. As Pablo makes everything from scratch (with veges from his garden) and with no electricity, you should be prepared for a wait. However, the resulting pizza was the best I´ve had and even my partner (a serious carnivore) had to admit it was delicious.
DIRECTIONS: From South beach, follow the main track up to the very top of the island. You will reach a fork at which you can go either right or left. Go left and walk about 150m and you should find it. It´s right next to a gum forest. Pablo was making up more signs on the day we visited, so hopefully it will be easy to find in the future.

After walking for most of the day around the island we stumbled across the sign to this place. Right next to a forest of eucalyptus trees, which reminded me of home(Aus) and a very personal view over a beautiful section of lake titicaca we had a delicious pizza and cold beer. The chef had a guitar which he let my partner play overlooking the lake at 4200m ASL. A very nice afternoon on the island and a great place to take a few snaps. They also run the place with no electricity which is cool.

Away from everything else amongst beautiful eucalyptus trees, with it's own hillside view over the lake. Freshly made vegetarian pizzas with quinoa were fantastic with a cold paceña to wash it down. One of the most perfect and scenic afternoons i've ever had, with a few friends, a few beers and pizzas... perfect.

After receiving a tip from other travelers about this restaurant we decided to try it ourselves and were extremely impressed!

We arrived at the restaurant and found the menu to be very simple but very appealing and the food definitely delivered. There is no electricity in the restaurant at all and that definitely adds to the experience. Pablo the chef cooks by candlelight, using gas in a tiny kitchen but the food he produces is incredible. We had the steak and fish and both were amazing!

It is a little bit harder to find but is definitely worth the trip - if I can give you a tip - take a torch with you on the way back but it is incredibly hard to find your way home in the dark!
