“No English Explanations”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 12, 2013

From the outside, you might think that the inside would be non-Japanese tourist friendly. The display and pamphlet on the outside had English ... but inside all the displays were in Japanese only. I did not enjoy it because I simply dont know what I was suppose to be knowing and learning.

“Great site”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2013

The castle looks great, even if it is a reconstruction.
Great to take pictures!

The museum inside has various things to do - a diorama exhibit, looking at period pieces, some interactive exhibits, a doll show and a viewing deck on the top floor.
There's also a souvenir shop near the entrance.

“kokura castle and Cherry blossoms”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2013

castle in the center of the city of Kitakyushu.
This area is good for shopping and sightseeing.
There are a lot of restaurants and department stores and shopping malls around the Kokura Castle.
I recommend you to go to the March of the cherry blossoms in full bloom!!

“An attractive Japanese castle as a facility to learn Japanese history.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 2, 2013

This castle has a lot of exhibisions to learn Japanese history and old culture, for example, a meal for a lord, Japanese swords, a model of an old Japanese townscape, Japanese works of art and so on.
In those things, the picture of a huge tiger, called "Mukaetora(迎え虎)", is pretty powerful and will move you. Children can enjoy riding a palanquin for a lord, called Kago, and adults can enjoy taking pictures of it.
The fine view from the keep is really beautiful. There are some powerful coin-operated telescopes and It makes you the whole town view of Kokura.
In the first floor, There is a souvenir shop and you can buy noted products of Kitakyushu and goods of a mascot called "Torattya (とらっちゃ)."
This castle is not so big, so you can enjoy it for two or three hours.
I can recommend you as a nice sightseeing spot if you go to Kitakyusyu.
