“Always A Pleasure!”
Reviewed May 18, 2012

Since my first 3-night visit here in 2009, I have stayed here on seven more 3-night visits. Owners Laurie, Bob & Kristina are still as kind as ever, always making me, my wife & my dogs feel very welcome! They have done some nice upgrades in the past 3 years, mainly carpeting & shower curtains. As always, the rooms at Scenic Shore are impeccable.

One thing I never knew---they will never recommend a restaurant that they haven't tried themselves (ie., by word of mouth.) For those who want to visit Door County, it is so much cheaper to stay here, and just drive to Door County for daily visits (or nightly restaurants.) Scenic Shore is only about 7 miles south of the Door County line!

The motel features 100% smoke free rooms, has free parking right outside your door, and there is a nice view of Lake Michigan right across the street. The air up here (NE Wisconsin) is the freshest that you will ever breath. There are restaurants all over the many towns nearby, ranging from budget to upscale, and everything in between. A very nice Piggly Wiggly grocery store is next door, and there is another very nice supermarket one mile into Algoma called Denny's.

On many occasions, daughter & co-owner, Kristina, shares some of her home made cakes with patrons---a very nice touch. This is a small motel featuring 13 rooms, so reservations are a must during the busy summer months. Algoma is a fishing capital in Wisconsin, so the fisherman enjoy staying here too. Situated on very nicely kept grounds of about 4-5 acres, Kristina can frequently be seen, keeping the lawn neatly manicured with her John Deere tractor mower. Pet friendly, kid friendly, family friendly, senior friendly & Nuclear Plant worker friendly! Just plain down right "friendly".

So, the next time you're up this way, stay in the cleanest motel you'll ever come across---well appointed rooms---comfortable Queen beds---slide open the window & enjoy that Lake Michigan breeze. Eat at one of the many nice eateries in Algoma or Kewaunee (about 10 miles south.) And, save some money with their decent rates! Always a pleasure................

Room Tip: If you desire a better view of Lake Michigan, you may want to choose an upstairs room.

The family that runs this hotel couldn't be nicer or more accommodating. We spent two weeknights at this hotel. The rooms were basic but comfortable. The bathroom fixtures and carpet were like new. Most importantly, everything was very clean. The table and chairs on the balcony allowed us to enjoy the cool breezes off the lake. The prices was reasonable - great value. There's plenty to do in Algoma, Kewaunee, and the rest of lower Door County without the crazy traffic and crowds seen north of Sturgeon Bay.

Room Tip: If you don't mind the stairs, the lake view is much better on the second floor.

The owners live on site and were very accomodating to our needs. Simple decor, updated and very clean. Located across from the lake shore and close to downtown. Great value

My husband and I recently stayed here for a weekend getaway and were pleasantly surprised with this hotel! The owners were very helpful-even pointing out the best pizza place in town. The room was exceptionally clean, nicely furnished and a GREAT price! We especially liked the chair and tables outside our room on the upper level-made a great place to try out our new bottle of wine while looking at the view of the lake. The only thing missing was a coffee pot! The owners had free coffee always in the office, but it would have been nice to make our own. We will definitely be back!!!!

My husband and I have stayed at Scenic shore for many years, and always find it the nicest place to stay, and the best buy in the town of Algoma . It has a bit of a lake view , if you stay on the upper level. In the early years when the motel was new, the trees were little and you could see a large portion of the lake, but now these trees have gotten taller, but there is still a bit of lake view left too see, even tough the motel is not on the lake shore. Outside your room, at the Scenic Shore, there are little tables and chairs that sit outside your room to enjoy the view you do have, a real nice addition to the motel, We love that the rooms they give us are smoke free and spacious, and always smell so nice when you enter after a long day away. No matter what room we have stayed in over the many years they are always the cleanest rooms and so peaceful. I think when Scenic Shore Inn was built, the walls were made soundproof because we have never heard talk in the next room, or a television, any time of the day or night, even when the motel has been fully booked. Many fisherman stay at this hotel and it can be a tiny bit noisy outside in the early morning when they are leaving in their cars to fish on the boats, but it has never bothered us. This town is a fishermen paradise and at any of the motels you stay at ,the guys all get up early to get on the early morning fishing charter boats, it is part of Algoma and its charm. All in all, for the money, you won't find a nicer place to stay at when you want a clean and modern decorated room. The new owners are so friendly and helpful too, a real plus when you need something like an extra towel or a nice hot cup of coffee. The little town of Algoma has a few mom and pop places to eat , a great new bakery in town by the north marina , a wonderful new sports bar, along with algomas winery, which is worth a tour of. So if you need a place to stay in Algoma, stay at the Scenic Shore, you will be glad you did.

scenic shore has an excellent rate-excellent owners-very pet friendly.....however---fishermen rule the roost, at 3 am it starts, they talk loudly, walk back and forth constantly causing our dogs after 4-5 trips past our upstairs room to bark......then they were outside til 4 or so laughing and talking loudly. this returns at dusk---so sleeping in or going to sleep is in spurts. its a shame because we chose an upper room to avoid this. not sure if will return, it does not have a good view of the water as there is a huge condominium across the road with massive trees, no access to the water anyway....kind of a bummer vacation all around.-sigh

My wife got so backed up with her work from taking three other trips, so I came up here alone with my Boston Terrier. As soon as I walked into the office to check in, new owner Laurie was on the floor, playing with Farrah, my pooch. It was love at first sight!

Laurie made us feel so welcome---gave us a great room at the end of the motel, so I had easy access to the beautiful four-acre grounds when it came time to walk Farrah. Our room was as nice as any three-diamond AAA motel room that I have ever stayed in---impeccably clean, roomy, comfortable beds and nice bathroom and shower. And at $44.00, what a bargain!

Right across the highway is Lake Michigan---so nice to view while staying here. Windows slide open for a cooling lake breeze, day and night---some of the freshest air I have ever breathed. Nice table and chairs outside each room---nice shady picnic table and Weber grill for dining "al fresco". No, there is no swimming pool at this motel, but right across the street is one of the biggest "swimming pools" in the world---Lake Michigan!

Owners Laurie and Bob and daughter Kristina are very helpful and knowledgeable when it comes to recommending great local restaurants, and fun places to visit in nearby Door County, especially the town of Sturgeon Bay. For your convenience, within one block of the motel are a very nice Piggly Wiggly store, a Subway and a Dollar Store.

Downtown Algoma is about one mile north---a very nice little fishing town right on Lake Michigan---even has an oft-photographed red "working" lighthouse. The famous Von Stiehl award-winning winery/gift shop is right in the heart of town, with free tasting and a $3.00 tour. Bearcat Seafood Store near the winery has the best smoked fish in the world, at dirt-cheap prices. The owner always advises customers to visit the winery first, then come to Bearcat's---HMMMMMM!!!

Restaurants in Algoma are great---prices are unbelievably reasonable. Can't wait to bring my wife back to the Scenic Shore Inn next month, with Beau, our Miniature Schnauzer (Farrah can stay home this time!) On my last night here, daughter Kristina (who drives that John Deere with a passion, while mowing the four acres of neatly-cropped grass) gave me a big piece of delicious chocolate cake which she had just baked---took it back to the room. Yummy!!! Owner/Dad Bob told me that this is quite a common occurrence. Plenty of free parking two feet from your door. I highly recommend staying at Scenic Shore Inn to everyone who comes to visit the Algoma area. You'll be glad you did!
