I only stayed at Ise Shinsen because I was able to find a decent price online that offered a rather steep discount, even after the extra fee charged for the Golden Week holiday season. A step above a regular business hotel, but below a high end resort, this place was a great combo of modern design and comfort with some traditional touches.

The big draw is the onsen baths. The shared public bath was nice, and completely empty both times I used it. The outdoor poor is very, very large and in the late evening it was quite peaceful. The traffic and city noise mentioned in some other reviews didn't bother me at all. Frankly, once the sun goes down, Ise is a pretty quiet town. The outdoor tub in our room was really nice as well, but the temperature control panel would be pretty much impossible to figure out if you don't read Japanese. Personally, I think the baths here were some of the nicest I've used at hotels this size.

We didn't eat in the hotel restaurant for dinner, but the breakfast was incredible. A multicourse affair, I was already full halfway through but pushed on through. The salad was great, and the grilled snapper fish was the highlight of the meal. See attached picture for a close up look at the various dishes.

I have a feeling that even when this place is fully booked, the public areas don't get so busy. Even during Golden Week, it was relatively quiet despite full capacity. The free drinks and snacks in the lounge on the top floor were a welcome treat after the onsen.

Only complaints were the lack of the usual sightseeing info like maps or brochures for the area, and the very early room cleaning. The cleaning people were already making noise in the hallways and emptying out the rooms before 8am.

If you can find a deal for this place, it's definitely worth a stay.

Had great experiences.

The bath in the balcony, I love this.
Fill the tub with hot water by a single button, and dip yourself into the tub.
The water overflow like Niagara Falls.

The dinner and the breakfast are like the ones from the heaven.
I over-ate the dishes ignoring my weight, but no regret.

Hospitality of the staff is also incredible.

The location is very good as this hotel is in the walking distance to Ise Shrine Geku.

I'm not sure about the price, though.
Probably many people think it is overpriced.

Family truly this modern ryokan hotel in an excellent location. Staff was very friendly, helpful and resourceful. The food served superb. We had order few dishes repeatedly and the chef was creative to present it in different style and all was delicious. Different experience for the same raw ingredient cooked in different ways.

Great relaxing lobby with free flow of drinks. Onsen private and comfortable.

A place to go back many times....

Very new hotel, right in front of the train station and next to the main street. The Ise Jingu shrine is within walking distance. They serve a very large traditional Japanese breakfast at the restaurant down stairs, highly recommended. There is a large public bath, but there was also a small bath out on the balcony of our room too.
