“Always a pleasure.”
Reviewed January 8, 2012

If you are going to Ise, you have to try these rice cakes! They may not be the kind of sweetness that you're used to, but they are certainly yummy.

Try to get there on the first of the month (at the crack of dawn - try to aim for 5am) to get special cakes. Be willing to queue up with the locals for about an hour, but you'll be rewarded with a unique cultural experience and some really excellent cakes.

“Delicious”
Reviewed April 2, 2009

Akafuku is one of the most delicious Japanese mochi/wagashi I have ever tried... and I have tried many!!!

The fresh texture and elegant simplicity melts in one's mouth; the memory of which creates cravings weeks, months even years later!

Yummy, yummy, yummy!

To add to this experience, the long history of the Hamada family providing their treat makes one feel privileged to take part in an age-old tradition, common to many Japanese. If you ever get the chance, be sure to try the "tsuitachi mochi", the first mochi of the month. This is an even more precious experience!
