During the nice walk from the parking lot, you will be accompanied by a myriad of Jizos (small Bodhisattvas). The size and simple beauty of the temple will surprise you. It is an active Buddhist temple that mixes shinto symbols in its architecture and themes. The monks meditate and practice Zen for hours every day. If you are lucky, you may be able to experience it too. I talked to a young monk who was walking barefoot on the freezing wooden floor and he was refreshingly honest when he admitted freezing. A beautiful and enlightening experience.
