“pleasant enough stay”
Reviewed January 6, 2014

Interesting décor! Not sure what to call it. Italian nouveau? A bit over the top/silly with the majestic royal "M" embroidered on the bathrobes and every room called "the emperor's suite" or "the Grand Duke's room" (I'm exaggerating). But the staff was friendly enough and we slept well and enjoyed the little balcony. Not a generic hotel by any means.

Thank you for the review, plasbo! We strive to differ ourselves from the "run-of the-mill" big-box hotels by offering truly boutique and personalized services. Thank you for your feedback, and we look forward to serving you again.

I tend to write Tripadvisor reviews only when I want to share a really special place, or warn about a particularly bad one. And this is my second one of the second type only.

We have stayed the the Majastic and eaten in the restaurant and have had no complaints, but no rave either. Had I been fair, I would have written about our previous experiences with the Majestic's happy hour, which really was a very happy experience to share and recommend: There were many tempting, delicious and eclectic selections, priced for happy hour. Alas, the happy hour is no longer happy in many respects.

The first thing we noticed was that the selections had been whittled down to a handfull of run-of-the-mill small appetizer plates, also half as many as what is advertised online. That would have been OK if the price had been happy hour price, but the price was also run-of-the-mill appetizer price level at $9 for any one of them, twice of what it used to be, and in some cases substantially more than the price currently advertised online. We should have left and gone across the street, but stayed because I had already ordered a beer, which at $4 wasn't all that happy either.

We ordered a plate of crab cakes for my wife and one of fish tacos for myself, simple dishes that it took 15 minutes to serve, although the place was not busy. The crab cakes came without the advertised aioli and after the waiter had consulted the menu before agreeing that we were entitled to it, it arrived after a while. It bore little resemblance to aoili but a lot to creamy dill dressing, lacking any of the ingridients you associate with aioli. The crab cakes themselves, of which there were two, were fine but the accompanying "salad" consisted of a few soggy and limp lettuce leaves. The fish tacos, of which there were also two, were a disaster. The shells themselves where drenched, soft and limp. The fish itself was in scant evidence, two diminutive pieces on each taco, not even a bite each, probably 2 ounces or less in total - and they were cold. The accompanying French fries were limp, oily and barely lukewarm - I was unable to finish even half and that was not because there were a lot of them and not because I wasn't hungry.

If you go to the Majestic, don't go because it is happy hour. You can at any time order from the appetizer, soups or salad regular menus and pay no more. Or you can order and split a main dish and pay less. Whether the quality is any better we will probably never find out.

First and foremost, we would like to apologize for your unsatisfactory experience at the The 5th Street Bistro. I assure you these issues have been addressed in our kitchen and I would like to invite you back to our Bistro and give us the opportunity to serve you in a truly Majestic fashion. Please contact either BreeLee Johnston (restaurant manager) or myself directly and give us the opportunity to show you the quality and service we aim to give. - Matt (360) 299-1400 ext. 111

It is easy to write off places like this...small town; not too many other choices; community that doesn't know any better. None of that is accurate in this case. Sure, this is a hometown favorite for the folks in Anacortes, but the Majestic lives up to its lofty name by any measure. Great rooms, lovely spa, innovative restaurant, cozy bar. All nestled in one of the most beautiful four season outdoor playgrounds in North America. Come see for yourself why the Majestic keeps growing.

We couldn't agree more, NW-K9s. Anacortes has often been viewed as the "Gateway to the San Juan Islands," but the Majestic is trying to redefine that mindset. With several restaurants (including our own) and shops within walking distance, the Majestic is centrally located. Thank you for the great review, and we look forward to seeing you again soon!

I stayed for two nights in the Majestic Suite recently. It was the night before my wedding and the night of my wedding. This hotel is beautiful and the staff is really second to none! The service was immediate and given with a smile :) The location is great, the town of Anacortes is so quaint and cute. The beds were very comfortable and the bathrooms were stunning!
There were just a few negative points that put a damper on our stay :( First, it seemed as though our room had absolutely no sound-proofing. Like none. We heard, clear as day, conversations being had in the room next to us. It was our wedding night and all we could hear was other people! The Majestic Suite we stayed in was also right next to a flight of stairs and no matter how lightly someone stepped on the stairs, the noise would radiate through the room. It was really unfortunate. Not sure if it's a possibility but some kind of barrier or sound proofing would realllllly be beneficial.
Second, one of the bathrooms in the suite had a marvelous walk-in shower with a multitude of shower heads. Every time we turned the warm water on, a pounding sound would take over the shower. It was something about the water pressure. It made the shower not so enjoyable anymore. We also realized that it must be intensively annoying to the room beneath us?
Aside from that, we had a great stay and really did have any request met by the staff. The new building looked great as well!

Room Tip: Keep in mind the high level of noise from other rooms when reserving the majestic suite.

Thank you for the review, Brooklyn. We strive to make each guest's stay perfect and memorable. We're thrilled that you found the service impeccable, and appreciate the honest feedback regarding the noise. Fortunately, we have constructed a thirty-room expansion that is much quieter. We are addressing the issue of the loud shower with out maintenance team, and hope to have it fixed shortly. Thank you again, and please call me directly when you decide to visit Anacortes again! -Matt (360) 299-1400 ext. 111

Finally tried this place after thinking it was perhaps over priced and seeing not all good reviews. Was given a room in the new annex building. The room was sensational! LARGE! Well decorated, comfortable bed and linen. Large bath, with great terry. Ended up enjoying happy hour at their bar (a deal) and stayed for dinner which was very good. If you are in Anacortes and not on a tight budget, this is the place.

Room Tip: The rooms in the new annex building are great!

We love the Majestic! The bar is a great place with a friendly, classy environment and the service is second to none, but we do miss Edward's fedora!! Sarah and Madison rounded out the evening staff perfectly with their great service and bubbly personalities!

Our room was nice, very clean and the view was good. The bed was comfortable with nice linens. The bathroom was especially nice with a large, walk-in shower with rain type showerhead and premium soap, shampoo and conditioner. A French press coffee maker, electric kettle, coffee cups, and wine glasses were in the room along with a microwave and refrigerator. Ground coffee was supplied the first night and we enjoyed the coffee in our room the next morning. We did not receive coffee for the second night. There was a basket of various drinks and snacks available to purchase, but as usual with most mini-bars, the prices were high. The main complaint we had was, when we reserved the room it was listed as a suite with sofabed, and I would not call the room we had a suite nor was there a sofabed. I specifically chose that room based on the description even though it was more expensive than some others because we prefer to have a sofa so that we can sit and read instead of trying to sit on the bed. There was a sort of lounge in the room, but it was not comfortable for sitting and two people could definitely not sit on it. If we stayed here again, I would be sure to clarify in advance the type of room we would have. The room was mostly quiet, but the second night we were awakened about 1:30 in the morning by very loud people on the street outside. They must have been coming out of the pub and sounded very drunk. The noise continued for about half an hour, before they finally left. Overall the hotel is very nice and we would consider staying here again.

I apologize sincerely, Sandra, for the misleading room information. Upon further investigation, we incorrectly described the room type on our online system. It has since been corrected, but I would like to invite you back to try one of the Grande Suites that actually has a sofa-sleeper. Thank you for letting the service and amenities outweigh the miscommunication. Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you in the future. -Matt (360) 299-1400 ext. 111
