A friend and I booked a room primarily because we wanted to be near the Anacortes Ferry. But the Ship Harbor Inn is a place I'd want to stay in even without that benefit. We had a room that opened out to a wide lawn, then sloped downward towards the water. A deer grazed contentedly the first evening we sat outside to enjoy the sunset and views towards the San Juan Islands. Another benefit was how close it was to Washington Park, a drive/hike/walk just a few minutes away that afforded quiet dappled sunlight, more and different views from many pullouts by the water. The staff at the Inn were helpful and pleasant. And our first reason - the ferry - was a bonus. We left our car at motel and walked down to the ferry (about an 8 minute amble) and spent a fun day in Friday Harbor before returning back to our cozy room.
