Had high hopes for this place. They were good at first. We gave them four visits, and sad to report that we will probably not return. On our last visit, we ordered a tandoori lamb dish we had had prior. The meat tasted old, like it had been made the day before and warmed up! Not fresh!! Then, there were quality issues with some of their sauces that were extremely watered down. We are not likely to return.

The butter curry lamb and the veggie dishes are excellent at Sher-E-Panjab, the wife like the veggie dishes. You will like this restaurant if you like indian food- if you don't do not go.

We wanted to try something different. The fact there were so few people in the restaurant was a heads up (crowded restaurants tend to have great food). Ordered lamb with coconut sauce and halibut with marsala/mustard seed sauce. The lamb and halibut were boiled in t he sauces, served in bowls with a side bowl of rice. Lamb was incredibly tough, halibut texture made us think it was old. Sorry to say, we could not eat any of this. We were still charged the full amount, and we left all the food behind. We spent $35 for a dinner that we could not eat. What a waste of money this was!

My husband and I went to Sher-E-Punjab three weeks ago and have been back four times since then. The restaurant offers a lunchtime buffet until 2:30 p.m. as well as menu orders throughout the day and evening. The buffet is $10.99 as of this writing and offers at least three vegetarian dishes, as well as several chicken, goat, lamb, or other meat dishes. At the buffet, several cold vegetable dishes are always available, as is delicious raita, along with apples in a yogurt sauce and another dessert. Today it was rice pudding. It also always has a coriander-mint chutney and a tamarind chutney, both tasty. Though the buffet is a good value, the selections are all mild in order to be palatable to all ages and spice tolerances. For the tastiest food, we recommend ordering from the menu. It's a little more expensive (around $12 to $17 per entree). The heat ranges from level one to six. We usually get a level three, which has a pleasant zing but is not painful. We especially like the chicken murgh (a spinach-masala base), the ginger prawn masala, and anything in Gill's special sauce. Our friends have loved the biriyani dishes. For meat lovers, the mixed grill (Tandoor chicken and lamb, as well as marinated, grilled meats) is fantastic. All entrees are served with fragrant, gently spiced basmati rice. I can also recommend the lassi drinks. They come in sweet or salty. I asked for a salt one and requested that they go easy on the salt. They did.
We have some Punjabi friends, and they really liked the food and found it authentic.
The service is quick and attentive. We didn't mind the lack of decor that another visitor mentioned. Though it's a bit spare, it is very clean and welcoming--and it has been open only a month. We will be going back many, many times. It is already one of our three favorite restaurants in Anacortes.
