No trip to Washington is complete without a whale watch and Outer Islands Excursions is a great choice. Capt Jim, and naturalists Delaney and Sophia were friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable hosts. We saw Orcas, a humpback, seals, sea lions, porpoises and eagles. The boat was a perfect size with both inside and outside viewing opportunities. Such a perfect way to experience the natural beauty of the San Juans.
My sister is stationed in the area and when I came to visit, this was a MUST for my trip! Captain Brock and Naturalists Sophia and Ben of the Blackfish 4 were so welcoming and friendly and taught us so much about the area and the animals that they’re passionate about. We saw a pod of Doll’s porpoises, lots of harbor seals, and two humpback whales. The whales were the highlight - their names were Big Mama and Zorro and we spent a lot of time watching them go down for deep dives to eat and then resurface and do it again. This was truly an amazing experience and I can’t wait to come back when it’s warmer to see what else we can find!
Amazing tour! The captain and naturalists were awesome. Their stories were great! The sites and views were incredible!!
We took the whale tour today from Anacortes. We rode on the Triton with captain Clint. This was a once in a lifetime experience for my family (adult son, 11 year old daughter, husband) and me. Captain Clint made this trip for us. He was incredibly knowledgeable about not only the sea life, but all the surroundings. We saw (enormous) sea lions, seals, harbor porpoises, a sea otter (which is very rare in this area)members , blue heron, tons of other birds, and a pod of orcas. Captain Clint knew this pod well. He gave us a ton of information about the pod, as well as information on orcas in general. He was in constant contact with other boats and knew just where to take us. We saw all four of the pod (mom, son, two daughters) very close (of course as safely as possible). I 1000% recommend this tour. I’ve been on many whale tours, but this one by far was the very best. I could go on and on. This was a bucket list item for me, and it far exceeded my expectations. Thank you to captain Clint for making this a day we will never forget! Ps my pictures do it no justice.
Matt, Sophia and Brooke are a fantastic team! They are very informative and really go above and beyond to educate you about the areas wildlife and history. You can tell they love what they do!
The tour can be lengthy so bring a snack and something to drink. Boat is large and comfortable.
My mother and I had a great experience! The Captain and Naturalists were knowledgeable and kind! We saw a large humpback whale, seals and 3 members of a mammal eating pod of orcas. The orcas came right up to the boat. It was amazing! A whale was only a few feet away from me. I highly recommend this tour for anyone! My mother is 77 and some limited mobility and she was able to get on the boat and enjoy it. Kids and adults all loved the experience!
