I used to roam this land when Mr. Bles was alive. He was an odd guy but had a great mind. He invented the stump grinder and founded Virginia Beef. Made a load of money and was very good to his employees by providing housing and trucks. When I was a kid in the 60's we would walk along the river and look for civil war picket positions. There were also a couple of spots where indians used to chip arrow heads and it wasn't unusal to find them in freshly plowed fields. The area between Bles Hill and the south side of Rt 7 was called Ashburn flats. I think Belmont and Janelia Farm were both occupied in those days. A lot slower pace and a great place to grow up.
