I frequently travel to Arlington on business - my own dime, not on the taxpayers or a corporate account. Thus I'm looking for value and convenience and quality. Usually I can get a place near the Metro rail Red or Blue lines (see my Radisson review) for around $100-$120 per night - but not this trip, not even booking six weeks in advance. Hence I decided to go "off rail" and try one of the low budget places away from the rail lines.
This place ain't pretty, but it meets my needs for value, convenience, and quality. The property is definitely worn, but the room seems to be clean. It's quiet outside (Wednesday and Thursday nights). The staff are helpful and courteous. Example: free WiFi didn't work in the room last night, so I told the desk about it - and it works tonight (hence I can submit this review). The price is right: $89 per night plus tax. Convenient: I finally bought a Smartrip card, and I'm riding the buses to/from DCA and Ballston area. Working out great. Free breakfast (okay, raisin bran); coffee (not Starbucks); free WiFi (holy cow, why don't Hyatt and Hilton and Marriott get it? For $249 you should get free WiFi, for Pete's sake). By the way, there are at least a dozen good restaurants and pubs nearby, within a two minute walk, including FOUR Thai restaurants. I'm happy here and will come back if I can't get a $100 room near the Metro rail lines.
