I've stayed three times at this property and was finally compelled to write a review since every stay was marred by a less-than-stellar customer service performance. During my first stay, at 10 AM on the day of check-out, and even though I had the "privacy" tag on my door, housekeeping knocked and asked what time I would be leaving. This was totally inappropriate and I felt rushed to check out. Also apparently "privacy" means nothing to housekeeping.
During my second stay, someone knocked at the door. Within seconds, and before I had a chance to open the door, a man entered and, even though he saw me there, asked if he could check the mini bar. I must add that I was in my pajamas and did't even have a chance to get my robe.
The last stay was the most annoying. Two doors down was a dog that barked for hours and hours. All I was trying to do was a have a relaxing afternoon to read a book and rest. I contacted the front desk and nothing was done. After dinner, the dog was barking again. I contacted the front desk again. Their solution was that I move. I don't see why I have to move when it is this one dog that is bothering all of the guests on the floor. Even the room service attendant acknowledged that the dog would not stop barking. Needless to say it was a restless evening with little sleep.
When I checked out all three times, I noted what had happened on each occasion. The only response got from the front desk was a perfunctory "I'm sorry" but the expression on the face of reception was "Please go away now." I didn't even get an offer of a free drink or meal or anything for all the inconvenience. I would not have used it - it's just the principle of it that matters.
I've stayed in other Ritz Carltons and have had amazing service. This Ritz Carlton is a Ritz in name only. The service needs much improvement. I will never stay at this property again. For great customer service, try the Sofitel in Washington, DC. It may cost a little more, but it's well worth the money.
I do want to end on a positive note - I've eaten at the restaurant (Fyve) and have a had a nice experience every time. The gym attendant was very helpful and room service is always prompt and polite. If only reception, housekeeping and other staff would take cues from them.
