“Love this hotel”
Reviewed December 4, 2013

I love this hotel. The rooms are excellent, comfy and modern. Enjoyed a glass of wine in the lobby with some friends. Expensive but to be expected at a hotel.
Easy check in, hotel was very quiet the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Prompt shuttle to the airport, it leaves right on time so don't be late.

Room Tip: Away from ice machines/ elevator lobby.

I stayed at this hotel for an overnight prior to training that was being held in one of the conference rooms there. The hotel runs a shuttle to/from DCA every 20 minutes from 5AM to 12AM, so I used this to get me to the hotel upon my arrival at DCA. The wait was only about 5-10 minutes, which I didn't find too bad. Once at the hotel, I used the self check-in kiosk and had no issues getting checked in or getting to my room.

The room itself was decorated in a very modern décor, which wasn't bad, but it had a weird lighting thing going on. All of the lights in the room were very dim, so I found myself turning on every light in the room just to be able to see. The entry light when you walk in also turned on the closet light and the lights behind the headboard of the bed, but the closet door kept sliding open, so I couldn't leave this on for extra light. The room had a king size bed, a huge couch, a small table, a desk, and the dresser/tv stand. Quite a bit of furniture for one room.

The bathroom was a little odd. Again with the modern décor, the shower only had a half door - meaning there was a glass wall near the front end of the shower where the faucet was located, but nothing at the back of the shower, just wide open space. Although that was a little strange, it was again the lighting that really threw me off. There was one small light mounted low on the wall near the vanity top, nothing bright or higher up. This proved to be a challenge when applying makeup in the morning, so I had to move to the bedroom area for this.

When I first got to the hotel, I checked out the dining options at both Cinnabar and Lobbibar, but found Cinnabar to be pricey and a little more exotic than what I needed and Lobbibar seemed to only serve appetizers and pizza. I ended up ordering room service for dinner that night and for breakfast the next morning. I didn't find the prices to be exorbitant for the amount and quality of the food, and the service was very quick.

Overall, this is a good hotel for a short business trip, but I definitely wouldn't recommend it for families or for a longer stay. The pool is seasonal and wasn't open while I was there and I did not use the fitness center. The business center charges for workstation usage and the internet service in the hotel is not free, so this is not very accommodating for business travelers.

We had a great short stay here - despite the federal shut-down
The hotel was friendly and comfortable with a few bars and diners nearby
We used the free shuttle to the metro and could then explore DC and Arlington easily

Finding reasonable lodging in DC is difficult and bargain places are typically crawling with noisy youth groups. I got this hotel for <$100/night through Hotwire. My room was really nice--very large and nicely decorated--modern but still warm and comfortable. I was only here for one night and unfortunately had to change for anothe rmeeting to the Hyatt Capitol Hill (that hotel is very busy and crowded and the room was really really small). The Hyatt Crystal City has convenient shuttle pickup/drop off at DCA and the metro so was really easy to get around. I found all the staff very helpful and friendly. It did not seem like there were many very close dining option so I ate in the hotel restaurant (Cinnabar) which was pretty good and fairly reasonably priced.

I stayed here for a week for a work conference, and enjoyed the great location and excellent service. Staff were friendly and helpful, and there are plenty of great services (especially the shuttle to and from the metro). Restaurant and bar area are great, and there are plenty of dinner options within walking distance.

Like all American hotels, the room was very dark and it was impossible to make a decent cup of tea with the coffee machine provided. The only place with decent lighting was the bathroom, but I couldn't take my suitcase in there every time I wanted to search for a piece of clothing. Even the reading light by the bed was inadequate. While I love mood lighting, sometimes a bright overhead light is necessary.

We stayed here for five nights while attending a conference at the hotel. We particularly liked the many seating areas on the lobby floor, making it easy to sit with friends- one or two, or a whole gang. We had breakfast buffet everyday at the Cinabar restaurant, and it was always good. The lunch buffet was also very good, and all of the food prices were very reasonable.

The room was comfortable, but basic. We were on the 18th floor, but unfortunately were facing a building across the street. Everything was in good working order, and clean. The staff throughout our stay was very helpful.

I wished that there was a concierge level with separate lounge, it would have been nice to spend time there with friends- but, alas...

It is a good business hotel. It is not near the metro station so, if you are walking, its a good walk. The hotel does offer a shuttle to the metro station every 15 minutes. It is also a walk to Pentagon City Mall. A zillion good restaurants are just a few blocks away. I also parked in the PMI garage around the backside of the hotel, as it was less expensive than the hotel valet parking.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor, facing the airport.
