“Great Hotel; Convenient to Everything”
Reviewed April 14, 2008

This is a great hotel right in the heart of Arlington VA, and we stayed there for four nights. We took Amtrak to Union Station in D.C. - the cab fare to the hotel was $14 with tip (Metro is cheaper, but we had luggage). The staff was welcoming (so were the cookies). The room was very nice and the housekeeping staff was helpful, as well as the Michael, the Concierge. The Doubletree has 3 internet kiosks in the lobby (FREE) and I never had to wait. The location of the hotel is wonderful -- they have a free shuttle that will take you to the Metro and Pentagon Mall, so it's an EASY access into D.C. Actually, you can walk to both places. In the evening, skip dinner at the lobby restaurants and instead, make sure you go to the SKYDOME - a revolving bar/restaurant on the top floor. Every night there is something going on and it has the most magnificent view of Washington. Don't miss it. Even if you go up for drinks, the view is breathtaking! My only complaint is that on karaoke night, it's smokey (darn VA laws). The pool is on the 14th floor, but is NOT open during the day. VA laws require a lifeguard, so it's open only from 5 to 10 in the evenings (don't know about weekends). If you've never been to D.C., use the METRO to get around OR take the Old Town Trolley, where you can get on and off. I would definitely stay there again and recommend this hotel to others.

  • Liked — Hotel was airy, welcoming - great staff!
  • Disliked — Pool wasn't open during the day; smoking permitted in Skydome.

Just got back from DC. It was my first trip and I loved it! Especially appreciated the comfort of the Doubletree. Our roon had one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in. I went with a male friend and we got the junior suite so we would each have a room for ourselves. My friend uses a breathing machine at night and sleeps in a semi-upright position so the "living area" with a couch and chair was comfortable for him. I just gave him a few of my SIX pillows and he was fine. Both the living area and the sleeping area had a TV and a phone. It was great to have a way to make coffee/tea in hte room also. The Cafe is a great place to have breakfast. A little spendy but not bad for Washington DC. The Sky Dome at the top of the hotel is a revolving bar/resteraunt which affords a great view of the city. The hotel is not far from the metro and an underground mall which has a great Cajun place to eat. Sorry. the name espcapes me. The hotel will provide shuttle service to surrounding restaurants and the metro/mall and of course to the airport.

My colleague and I stayed here on business over the past week. While the rooms were comfortable and the housekeeping staff was excellent, the only thing that could possibly justify the price was the location. Our complaints were minor, but they piled up:
1) Internet service had to be paid for ($10/day), and it only worked intermittently. We checked with other customers, and they had the same problem. Complained, but fell on deaf ears.
2) TV reception was poor, especially on HBO.
3) Food served in the SkyDome restaurant was mediocre at best (though service was good).
4) Our bill was messed up (by a significant amount), had to fix it before leaving. Had a feeling this would happen and was assured it wouldn't, but it did.
5) One shuttle driver was extremely rude (but the rest were nice).
Overall, if you're just using this as a place to sleep (and not eating there, using internet, etc. etc.), it should be fine. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend it.

Excellent location, great value. After repeatedly giving the Hilton Mark Center in Alexandria my business (hoping they would finally figure out customer service), I finally changes to the Doubletree in Crystal City. I wish I would have done it long ago. The staff here was excellent, check-in was speedy and efficient. No waits here.

In a nutshell:
- The hotel charges a premium for parking (valet and self park).
- The hotel charges for internet service.
- Both resturaunts were very good. They were moderately priced for a major hotel chain.
- For Hilton Gold Members, at check in, you have a choice of free breakfast, free internet, or a 1,000 hilton honors points.
- The hotel has two bars, one in the lobby and one in a revolving room on top of the building. The atmosphere is unbeatable, but the service is aweful at best. I went there on two occasions, almost no patrons in the bar, but I had to practically beg someone to get our party some drinks. Forget about refills, etc.
- The rooms were excellent, there are at least four different types of room: King, Double, King Suite, Double Suite.
- I was upgraded to the King Suite because of the Hilton Honors program. The room (which actually is two rooms) has two televisions, one king bed, and a sofa bed.
- Check out was speedy and efficient.
-Convenient location to the Pentagon City Mall Metro Station on the Orange/Blue line. The current Metro cost to Down Town DC (one-way) is $1.40 (US).
-The hotel has a shuttle to the metro station/Pentagon City Mall. It is free and leaves the hotel twice an hour. If you miss it, not to worry, the metro station and the mall are within .5 miles of the hotel, and since the shuttle takes time to load, then stops at another hotel, it is actually faster to walk to the station/mall than to take the shuttle.
- The gift shop is ok, typical prices, but if you something small to take back home you can find the typical tourist stuff here.

What a great spot for a DC weekend. As you check in you're greeted with warm cookies, a good nights rest and breakfast buffet in the morning. This hotel is a stone's throw from the best sites in the US. Our kids went to bed each night (after a great shower in an extra clean bathroom) with a view overlooking the Potomac. They could see the Washington Monument, Lincoln, and even the Jefferson memorials. Within a few moments drive you can easily get to the city to tour all of these, not to mention Arlington. The best part was how comfortable the beds and pillows were after a long day of touring the great DC. The Saturday concierge, Michael, is an excellent resource. The Dbletree is an easy drive away from historic Old Town. A short walk from one of the finest malls, even an ice rink around the corner. We'll go back. The staff was helpful and quick to check us in. It was easy to self and/or valet the car, elevators had little wait time. We'll check the pool out next time. But if you're looking to do the sites and want to be close to the city , and come back for a good night's sleep the Doubletree/Crystal City is a great choice.

  • Liked — the beds were CLEAN and comfortable (pillows too)// awesome location
  • Disliked — the dusty carpeting, the funky entrance,

I stayed at the Doubletree in Crystal City as part of a large group who traveled to Washington for a New Year's Eve party. This is an older property that dates back to the early 1970's. The decor is somewhat dated, but the place is clean and the staff is pleasant.

My room was in the north tower and had a view of the Washington Monument, the Pentagon, and the Capitol. The room was small, and my request for a king bed was ignored either by the tour company or by the hotel (not sure). The two double beds made the room seem crowded with its armoire, desk, pair of easy chairs, table, and beds. The furniture design was cheap modern with Beidermeir overtones. Most of it was old and scratched. Fabrics were also run of the mill and not very attractive. This is the kind of room that could induce a state of depression in somebody less stable.

The bath was also small, but clean. Amenities included a tiny vanity with Neutrogena soaps and body products, blow drier, phone in bath, and lots of fluffy white towels. Water pressure was ok, but the hot water was slow to come up and either didn't last or changed temperature in the middle of a shower. There was a coffee/tea service on the desk. The alarm clock couldn't be set as it was broken, and the light switch for the bedside lamp was broken, so the reading lamp couldn't be turned on. Let's just say that the room was ok and that there were maintenance problems.

I had the opportunity to take breakfast downstairs twice. Breakfast was good and arrived hot. A dinner arranged for us was ok as well; nothing special. I used the pool, which is on the 14th floor. I was the only one in the pool. It was large and pleasant and an attendant was on duty. The most fun part of staying at this hotel is that it still has one of those revolving bar/restaurants on the roof. The SkyDome is on the 17th floor and will bring you back to the days of mirrored disco balls and jumpsuits open to the waist. The Moroccan bartender is Alami. He makes a great drink and does a good job making you feel at home. Incidentally, the drinks in the SkyDome are less expensive than in the main lobby, but starting January 1, 2008 there will be a cover charge of $10 per person.

The hotel overall is mediocre. I'd probably not choose to stay there again. Just a few streets away is a Crowne Plaza where I have stayed before. This would be a much better choice. It's only about three blocks from the Metro. If you take the yellow line, you are only four stops from the National Gallery. Use the Archives/Naval Memorial stop.

  • Liked — The revolving rooftop SkyDome is like a trip back in time; fun place for a drink.
  • Disliked — Room was small and cramped; a bit depressing.

Stayed for 5 nights during September to attend a nearby conference. Received a good deal on priceline.

Free airport shuttle was prompt.

Front desk personnel was pleasant during check-in and check-out.

Asked for and received a north tower room with a view. I had a nice view of the Pentagon and the Washington monument and if I looked really hard I was able to pick out a few other buildings and landmarks. The views during the day and at night were great. I also enjoyed watching planes coming in on their approaches to Washington Reagan Airport.

The exercise room and the pool were both adequate. Both had views out their windows. As some have mentioned, the pool area was rather bland and could use some updating. The water temperature was a bit cool even for an indoor pool.

The room was nice and clean and the bed very comfortable. The bathtub drain was slow.

During one day of my stay, a 5K/10K? race took place with the hotel serving as the start/finish point. Even though I was in one of the upper floors, the noise and music from down on the street were easily noticeable in my room.

The hotel is located slightly north of the major shopping areas in Crystal City but well within walking distance. The Metro is also within walking distance. I felt very safe walking around.

Overall the hotel was a good value for the price I paid and I would stay here again. I also recommend the north tower rooms with a view.
