“Up close view of commercial aircraft on approach and departing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

This is the coolest place to sit and watch planes fly overhead as they land or take off from Washington National Airport. The location provides a view you can't get at any other airport.

“good place to watch planes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2013

Nice little park, easily accessible on the mount vernon trail. Great place to watch planes take and land at national airport.

“Awesome place to see planes!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2013

We visited this park twice, the first time was much quieter for some reason and the planes were landing one after the other right overhead. For some reason, the second time, the park was so busy we could not find a place to part, and the planes were leaving the runway so not as exciting - but definitely found it to be a very cool experience and great break!

“Terrific!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2013

Best plane spotting place I’ve ever experienced. A wonderful scenic spot on the return past Reagan National Airport where families congregate for picnics, bike rides, and ball playing. You can see jets arrive in the distance, hug along the Potomac, bank a sharp right to avoid entering D.C., and then fly directly overhead, landing approximately 100 yards beyond the water.

It required a cab ride to get here because we hadn’t rented a car, but my son got some terrific photos and we all had major thrills watching the air traffic up close and personal. You can even feel and smell the departing air traffic lined up on the runway.

The highlight was perhaps near the end when, for some reason, we experienced the “wake” of an Airbus A320 – remnants of sound lingered after the plane flew overhead as if an echo had returned from the dead. Highly recommended!

“The kids LOVE this!”

We packed a picnic and sat there watching the jets land, over and over again! So close to them, it never gets old!
