The location cannot be beat. Shopping, restaurants, metro all underground. The room was perfect for our needs. The kitchen and bathrooms do need updating. We stayed on the 13th floor and had a wonderful view, but the street noise wakes you up quite early no matter which side you stay. We especially liked having the washer and dryer in the room. The staff makes your stay especially nice. We were always greeted by name and asked how our day went. We enjoyed the balcony, but would have liked chairs(it was still snowing and cold). I definitely would stay again.

Room Tip: I would stay as high as possible. You do have early street noise, but the view at night is great.

Oh MY! All those years staying at the Marriott and right next door was the Oakwood all this time. Last year my Marriott reservation was messed up (my fault) so I needed a week during a conference. I just happen to notice this place on google map that popped up with hotel search but it did not seem to be a hotel. It was in fact temporary apartments and I found that I could reserve an apartment for only 6 days at less than the Marriott was charging the conference goers. I ended up getting a TWO bedroom fully furnished apartment on the 17th floor overlooking Arlington and Pentagon City. OMG! I had two bedrooms, two full baths, a fully stocked kitchen. Only 4 blocks awy was a grocery store so I got food...never had to have continental breakfast, had sausage and eggs with english muffins all week long. I also had a living room with wide screen TV (and TV in each bedroom) with full cable. There was also a full dinning room set with service for 4. And a GREAT bacony...in fact I had two balconies!. My master bedroom was GREAT. Except I did not like the shower....so I went to the other bedroom and that shower was great! Nice to have choices. Shopping is very close by. Either in Crystal City or there is a HUGE mall only a few blocks away in Pentagon City. I lived like a VIP for that week. BEST conference ever!

Oakwood properties tend to cater to long-term stays and provides furnished apartments. This location is EXCELLENT. It is connected via the Marriott hotel next door and several tunnels to the Crystal City metro, placing you right on the blue and yellow Metro lines. It's nice not to even have to leave a building when it's raining or snowing to reach the Metro. There are OODLES of services in the area -- you're a comfortable 3 block walk from the Pentagon City mall (or you may take the blue line one stop) and one stop on the Metro from the Regan airport. Grocery services like Pea Pod will deliver right to your apartment and the amazing staff at the building are willing to meet them on your behalf if you need to be in a meeting or can't wait to get to see the sites.

The apartments are clean, spacious and well furnished. All of them seem to have large windows with plenty of light and come with every amenity you might want -- cable TV, complimentary high-speed internet, comfortable beds, full kitchens, all the linens and utensils you might need. Units have washers and dryers, saving you from the torture of trying to do laundry at a non-existent laundromat in Washington, DC. As a super-duper bonus in the Washington, DC region, parking is INCLUDED and is underground. This is a huge perk and not something to be taken lightly in a city where parking is a premium.

The staff can't be beat -- anything you need, they help you out. They receive packages, deliveries and help you with everything. They go out of their way to make it a nice community, providing opportunities to interact with your neighbors if you like. They have dinners, movies nights, etc. They also distribute a flier that gives you ideas of things happening in the immediate neighborhood, which is a very nice touch.

I'm extremely pleased with this property. I travel a LOT for work and have often found myself at a hotel for weeks on end. It is such a nice change to have the luxury of an apartment with the service of a great hotel.

Room Tip: You might ask for a room on a higher floor as the intersection can be loud.

The building was built in the 80's and apparently nothing else was done to keep it up. The carpet has stains that are probably 20 years old and all the cabinets and doors need some oiling. All the kitchen appliances and utensils are of very poor quality, including the knives that really don't cut anything!
The beds are old and caved in the middle.
The gym has very little to offer and machines are also from the 80's (the ones that actually work). There are cables hanging everywhere making it a pretty depressing room.
I think the worst though is that it's located in front of the highway and the windows don't have double glass so it's really noisy plus, the shades are so old and out of shape that they don't really close properly and a lot of light comes in at night.
On the whole, if you are staying for a short period of time, it's a good place for the location but if you are staying for over a month, I would not pick this place.

For an extended stay in the DC area, the Oakwood at Crystal City can't be beat. The location is excellent. The Crystal City Metro station can be accessed underground without even going outside the building. Additionally, there is plenty of secure parking on site, and it's easy to get in and out of the garage with a car.

As indicated by another reviewer, the bathrooms and kitchens are probably due for renovation soon, but the living room and bedroom areas are updated and fantastic. This was probably one of the most comfortable beds of anyplace I've stayed in years. I was on the 12th floor, and never heard any street noise or noise from other rooms. Oakwood staff are incredibly helpful and courteous.
