We recently relocated from Texas to the DC Area. We are pretty picky about our Mexican food, having spent a lot of time in Texas and in Mexico and Central and South America. Taqueria Poblano is the only place in DC that has authentic Tacos al Carbon with corn tortillas and a real-margarita that is not made with a mix, like so many of the places in the DC-area. For us, it is like going south of the border and having real Mexican food. Would definitely recommend the place. Also, they have a great hot sauce with poblano peppers that is muy bueno. Great staff and authentic Taqueria atmosphere. Parking can be a challenge--but it adds to the authenticity---it is reminiscent of being in Mexico City--Districto Federal--and looking for a place to park to grab a few tacos. Only thing missing are the old VW taxis. Enjoy.

This is a welcoming, friendly place to eat, regardless of the strip mall facade! The bartenders and door people greet you enthusiastically, and the wait staff are happy to bring you terrific chips and a wonderful, smoky salsa. The house margaritas are fabulous - just the right amount of tang, which comes from freshly squeezed limes. So good! We love the refried beans - that and guacamole with my chips and salsa and I'm often full before we get to dinner! The tacos come a la carte, so be sure to order a couple if you are hungry. Two things to definitely try if they are on the list of daily specials - Mexican pizza and tortilla soup. The soup is particularly delicious you can make a meal of it alone, or with the side taco. Overall a terrific meal in a comfortable, friendly setting and at an affordable price point.

Food is pretty good -- not spectacular but it's quick, the restaurant is clean and the servers are extremely nice and friendly. Great place to bring kids.

I've only eaten here once. The salsa was delicious and they were making more of it right there. My enchiladas were good, but the amount of cheese overwhelmed everything else - that sort of approach screams Americanization of food. If you get Mexican food in southern Texas or California (or Mexico for that matter) you'll always get enough cheese for flavor, but they don't allow it to overwhelm the taste of the meat (the true hero of the dish) or the tortilla (an important contribution to balancing the flavors). It's decent enough, inexpensive, and has a nice atmosphere. If you're looking for authentic Mexican cuisine (outnumbered 200 to 1 by Peruvian chicken and Salvadorian pupusa joints in the DC area) my recommendation is Lauriol Plaza in Adams Morgan/Dupont Circle. This will do if you want tasty cheap eats.
