“Gets very crowded on weekends”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 17, 2013

Best to bike there on a weekday or offhours when won't have to contend with the crowd. Note that it is fairly easily to get in from DCA to downtown Washington by grabbing a rental bike near airport and cycling in in about 30 min -- slighly faster than subway sometimes and much more pleasant.

“A terrific way to get a walk, run, or bike ride in”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2013

It stretches from Mount Vernon to Roosevelt Island (the good Roosevelt). It's serene and mostly flat.

The 'bad' is that it's not very wide and the bikes can get a bit fast . . . . . and dangerous, especially by the power plant in north Alexandria.

“Busy but pretty trail”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 19, 2013

This walking, running, biking and dog walking trail gets really busy but it's worth dodging other folks out there to get your workout on. The trail is paved, wide enough to run 3-4 abreast, and runs along the potomac all the way to Mt. Vernon. We pick it up at the Key Bridge, and when biking it's approximately 18 miles to Mt. Vernon itself. If you can't find parking at that little lot right under the bridge (for free) you can park at the Key Bridge Marriott (for hourly rates). The trail also goes in the opposite direction, but the first 8-10 miles are mostly uphill and then you are also near the highway quite a bit. I find it's prettier to go towards Mt. Vernon, because even though you are close to the highway for a lot of it, you are right next to the river and so you forget about the highway. You also go through several bits of forest, which are challenging. There's also a park along the way with restrooms. The nicer the weather, the more people that are out on this trail!

“Gem of the Region”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 14, 2013

What a great place to bike, walk, run, walk the dog. A true gem in our region. Its getting way more crowded than it used to be even 3 or 4 years ago. On a spring or autumn day with 70 degree temps & low humidity this place is packed. Beware the clown rollerbladers with headphones on - - you're not the only ones on the planet, people!

“Fun multi-use trail with a great view!”

Great trail to run and bike on - with the best views of the Potomac River and DC.

It's a safe area and there are always a lot of people on the trail.
