Lots of GREAT places to eat, there is outside seating where you can have your dog on the other side of the 'fence' along the sidewalk area. They have dog bowls of water and almost ALL places are dog friendly. The best place to eat is the Thai of Shirlington. But every place there has good food.
Good parking in lots around the main street.

The movie theatre is only OK (no stadium seating) but has one of the more interesting selections of indie and foreign films in the area. Signature is a good theater as well. Parking is easy some interesting shops. Lots of food choices, which are generally good but not worth the drive in and of themselves, but fine if your already there. The exceptions are Busboys and Poets which is interesting and good and Carlye which is very good

This quaint little village is great and animal friendly. There is a movie and play theatre along with several restaurants to choose from. If you have a dog right across the street is a .5 mile long enclosed dog park with creek accessibility.

This is a great place to go for dinner or brunch. It is a long block or two of restaurants, small shops (but mostly food) with a lot of outdoor dining in front of the different establishments. Our Nepalese friends feel the Indian restaurant there is one of the best in the DC area. Very European street scene feel. Relaxed and relaxing. Two major movie theaters are just a block or so away, one that has all the regular first ones and one that, while not quite an art theater, has movies that are generally much more interesting (ones with dialog and character plots rather than just blowing things up and driving fast cars). Sometimes they show foreign movies with subtitles so you get a chance to see what non-Hollywood is up to and how other people really live. The Signature Theater is in the area, although I have not gone. A nice uppper middle class hang out. Safe streets and lots of close parking.
