“Nice hotel, quick access to metro”
Reviewed October 9, 2012

Let's face it ... Washington DC hotels are expensive. We found this hotel to be a nice alternative. It's located about 2 (short) blocks from the Crystal City metro stop, which gave easy access to all that Washington DC had to offer.

The rooms were spacious and comfortable, and I was surprised at how quiet it was when we were in our room. Breakfast was great, and of course the cookies in the evening weren't bad either.

Room Tip: We had a room on the top floor. There really are no Wash DC views from this hotel.

I stayed here 9/4 and it was originally scheduled for 3 nights while attending a conference and my girlfriend came as well so she could do some sightseeing. Check in was fine, and breakfast was good (pretty standard for a Hilton/Marriott type of breakfast). The morning of 9/5 I attended my conference and everything was fine. My girlfriend slept in a little and around 10am she takes a shower in the hotel room. While taking a shower sewage backup filled the tub (see attached pictures). She called me as she did not want to stay in the room as the smell was awful. I had to leave the conference to go to the hotel to fix the issue. I decided to stay at a nearby Marriott instead for the remaining 2 nights. The manager explained that there was water testing completed in the area and that’s probably what caused the issue and to make sure to check with Marriott to ensure they didn’t have same issue (which was ridiculous because it was sewage backup, not the actual water). The manager assured me that I would receive a free night certificate in the mail (over a month later still received nothing).

Later that night into the next morning my girlfriend got sick and I had to go to the doctors/ pharmacy the next day. We believe it was because of this that she became sick, which ruined what was supposed to be a nice sightseeing Washington DC experience.

I debating on writing this review as accidents/unexpected situations occur that can sometimes be beyond the hotels control. As long as the hotel fixes the issue I am ok with it, but the hotel never attempt to justify this issue for the inconvenience we experienced. I have tried to contact Hilton customer service as well and they have made no attempts to fix this issue.

I like staying at Hampton Inns whenever possible because you always know what you are getting. This Hampton Inn was great! Good location- just a half mile from the airport and about a block from the Metro station, if you choose to take public transportation into DC or you can drive in. It's about a mile to the White House. check in went smoothly and the hotel was nicely decorated, had good amenities and a great breakfast daily. We enjoyed our stay very much and would definitely stay here again. Price is very fair for what you get in return.

I took my 8 yr old grandson to DC for 5 days and this was a great place to stay. It was a new hotel and everything was very clean. The location was within 10 minutes to the Crystal City Metro which is the best way to get around DC. There is the Crystal City Shopping Mall and lots of restaurants nearby. Check in and check out was very smooth and fast and the shuttle to and from the airport was fast. The breakfast buffet was very good with a large number of items to choose from. We used the indoor pool a couple of nights. And my grandson loved the afternoon cookies. I would recommend this hotel highly to both business and families. The staff was always very pleasant .

I'll be negative first: small issue though it seems, the bathroom door is just too darn BIG (42" heavy exterior-type slab). This makes the bathroom (small as it already is) quite cramped. You have to fix the bath mat every time you go in and out, and stand way to the side. I mean really, why such a big door on such a small water closet? Also, the shower head is pretty high up, so petite travelers have to stand on the tub edge to adjust it.

The sofa bed is your typical uncomfortable set up, but will do fine for younger kids.

Also, the Crystal City area is not really shopping friendly, with small retail businesses being the most common. The snack shop downstairs is more like a closet with soda, water chips and candy for sale, not an actual shop.

The pool is tiny, so a half dozen rowdy teenagers can take over the whole pool. The fitness room is small as well, with a few weights and cardio machines.

On the positive side, we did like it here overall. The one-bedroom King suite ($180/nite average) had two large-screen TVs, two a/c units, microwave, mini fridge, kitchenette counter with sink (no stove), free wi-fi, desk, desk chair, arm chair with ottoman, extra chair and a padded bench for putting on shoes or unpacking your suit case. The king bed was very comfy!

The free breakfast buffet was quite serviceable. Besides cereal, fruit, yogurt, scrambled eggs, waffles, french toast. whole-wheat bread, bagels, milk, juice, tea and coffee, there seems to be one variable meat dish per morning (e.g. sausage patties one day, biscuits and gravy the next). This can be a great way to get your large family started for WAY less than the $30 you'd pay at the McDonald's drive-thru.

There is also a coin laundry on site.

The location is pretty good--one block from the Metro, and near several good restaurants and an adult cabaret (poles and pasties! WTH???). There is a liquor store next to Chili's, Legal Sea Foods, Morton's and Ruth's Chris steak houses, and also a few ethnic restaurants around the block as well.

The streets are clean and safe (except for rude and/or crazy Virginia/DC drivers who don't always yield to pedestrians in cross walks--and Jefferson Davis Highway is a busy road, so beware), and it's walking distance (1/2 mile) to Costco and CVS, and 0.9 miles to the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City, which is in turn another 0.9 miles to the 9/11 Memorial at the Pentagon. It's five minutes by Metro to the Pentagon stop.

Riding into DC on the Metro is a breeze (unless there is track work being done, usually on weekends, and that can cause significant delays). If you drive, Hampton parking is $15 per day, with in-and-out privileges.

All in all, we recommend Hampton Inn at Reagan National as a less expensive, less hectic alternative to staying in downtown DC.

Room Tip: You can hear traffic noise even over the a/c, so higher rooms should be less noisy.

This is a nice hotel which is conveniently located near many things in Crystal City. It is conveniently located near the subway stop (ask to get the closest entrance). It has an airport shuttle.and the staff was friendly. My room had a refrigerator and microwave. The WiFi worked well during my stay.

I was in a handicap king and the shower was large and had a short lip you would have to negotiate over. The shower head was an elevated handheld which didn't seem to have much pressure. From my perspective, as a non-handicap shower, about 1/2 of the shower space was wasted with no water coverage. If you were in a shower chair using the handheld, it should be great..

I spent 3 nights there and, if back in the area, will likely stay here again.

I chose well when I picked this hotel for my first trip to D.C. I was attracted to it by the free breakfast, free shuttle to and from the airport and free wifi. I called the hotel as soon as I got my baggage from the airport and the driver was there within 10 minutes. When I checked out, the driver was waiting for me. I couldn't have expected better service.
The hotel is a short walk to the Metro with easy access to anywhere in DC.
On weekdays, the hotel seemed filled with a combination of families, business travelers and some military (The Pentagon is not far away.) On the weekend, it seemed like German tourists were the largest group in the dining room.
A pleasant surprise was the large number of excellent, moderately priced restaurants within walking distance. The rooms are also equipped with a refrigerator and microwave if you want to eat in.
I would not hesitate to stay there again.
