Owner description: The pre-Civil War residence of legendary Confederate general Robert E. Lee, this Greek revival mansion was taken over by Union troops, and the estate was used to bury the war dead. Overlooking the Potomac and the grounds of what is now Arlington National Cemetery, the home has been restored as a memorial to Lee.

When visiting the cemetery, some visitors forget to visit the Arlington House. Don'd forget. Not only it has some interesting history, it also sits at the hilltop providing a majestic view of Washington DC. I plan to go again.

This is the Washington and Lee House actually as it belonged to Martha Washington's grandson whose daughter married Robert E. Lee. Talk about walking where legends walked!! Lee was gone a lot while they were married but they had a healthy correspondence.
Everyone talks about the view of DC from the porch and I heartily agree!! Flowers were blooming in the garden and it is lovely.

It is the highest point of Cemetery. The view is spectacular looking down downtown. You can also see Pentagon Bldg from there.

The view from the porch is just gorgeous. The home is being restored and it is just a gorgeous example of Antebellum architecture. Beautiful.

An historic sight that we did not get off the shuttle to explore, as the inside is not open to the public.
