“Peaceful Feeling Here”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 4, 2013

I love this memorial - each memorial to each person who lost their life on 9/11 (either inside the Pentagon or on the plane that hit the Pentagon) has its own light in a pool underneath it - best time to see this memorial is at dusk when you get the effect from the lights. Let's never forget these people...

“Wow!!! .”

A must see for everyone and even better at night. We took the Metro over and its alittle bit of a walk to memorial but well worth it. We went back over at night and it is even better.

“Abstract memorial that is better at night”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2013

This memorial to the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon is easily accessible from the Metro. The memorial consists of a circular park area covered with gravel with a sleek marble and steel bench memorializing each victim who died at the Pentagon (both those on the plane and those in the building).

There is virtually no signage at the Memorial explaining it, but there is a 27 minute audio recording that you can access on the Memorial website and listen to on your phone while visiting. I have read reviews indicating that there is some printed literature at the site, but I didn't see it. The audio recording is very helpful in explaining the Memorial because the Memorial itself is very abstract, and it becomes easy to understand when you listen to the recording. There was also a docent at the Memorial during the day when we visited. The Memorial is lit at night, and I suspect it looks better than it does during the day, as the marble, steel and gravel are rather drab (though there are many trees in the Memorial).

The Memorial is effective at conveying the tragedy of the day, and you will easily be able to see everything there is to see while listening to the audio tour.

“Pentagon Memorial”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2013

This is a great memorial. You can access it on foot from the Metro, bus drop off, taxi or from Crystal City. There is no public parking on the Pentagon Reservation. Photos are only allowed at the Memorial, so make sure you only take pictures while on the memorial grounds. The memorial is set up by age of victims. When you first step in, the first victims' benches are the youngest and as you go, the ages go up. Each victim has a bench, the benches facing the building were victims on the plane, the ones facing away from the building were building occupants. There is a phone tour available and brochures as you enter the memorial.
