Stayed here for a conference and have taken twenty photos of the beautiful fluid "movement" design concepts throughout the hotel. Yes, a hotel so gorgeous inside that I snap pictures everywhere! Rooftop garden sitting area is delightful! Staff are over the top with friendliness and amazing customer service, even at the conference. Nice touches everywhere, even in the public restrooms. Beds are comfy. Only thing I would change is the gap between my door and the floor in the hallway - I can hear everyone walk by. It would be nice if it was a bit quieter. However, I cannot hear the planes taking off at the airport next door, so external wall soundproofing is excellent!

No doubt, this is a beautiful and aesthetically pleasing hotel. The rooms are great (although a tad small), and a major plus to have a walk-in shower vice shower/tub combination.
After an excellent stay at the hotel a few months ago, I was looking forward to returning, especially as a newly minted Platinum Member. Perhaps my expectactions were too high, or this hotel is still so new they don't know what to do with Elite members, but the perks were extremely lacking. The check-in was very blah and the receptionist was not very friendly nor did she explain anything about the hotel or lounge hours, etc. A few mistakes were made on the bill, and after inquiring with the manager, she simply said yeah that is wrong and then just pushed me to the next person, rather than simply apologizing and saying we'll take care of it.
Hopefully this was just an isolated incident and others have better experiences. It's a shame because it sort of ruined any chances of me returning for a future stay.
As for the other reviews posted on here, majority are spot-on and you definitely want to request a high floor if you are on the side of the train tracks. The Metro train isnt so bad, but the Amtrak and freight trains are quite loud.

I stayed at this hotel for a few days for a conference. Fascinating place. The decor is club-ish and modern. Big crystal diamonds on our meeting room tables. The rooms a nice size. But if you are on the side of building facing the DCA (national) airport, ask for a higher floor. I was on the 3rd and could hear not just the planes taking off, but the subway trains and regular trains (tracks are right by the hotel). About 5-7 minutes walk (not scary at all) to some very nice restaurants and an indoor set of shops. Things close early though, with restaurants shutting down by 9:30pm. Within this shopping area you can catch the blue line and get off near the Mall at Smithsonian station ($5 to and from). The DC area has this fantastic rent a bicycle program and one of the pick-up areas is right down the block from the hotel. Rarely have room service, but did this time and the Club sandwich was great.

Stayed her last weekend for a night so I could have close proximity into the city for a concert. Rooms were fine because it's a very new hotel. Lots of room and great Lobby. The only thing I didn't like was I was near the elevators, so I heard everything. I just wouldn't recommend that especially when it's a busy weekend like a homecoming for a local college.
Make sure you try getting a $99 rate and the parking is like $23 a day for self parking. I live in northern Va so I know there are some free street parking spots behind the hotel near the Residence Inn side and apartments if your tight on money.

Everything about this hotel is acceptable except the staff but that made up all the differene. This hotel is not really a Renaissance....it feels like a Courtyard or Hampton Inn and they prices the rooms that way too. The real problem with the hotel is that both the management and staff didn't really know what they were doing from the front desk to housekeeping to the breakfast service. The worst part is that they took their inexperience on the customer and that made our stay intolerable.

Just walking in to this place is a visual experience. It is absolutely stunning inside. The lobby/restaurant/bar areas are beautiful.- Brand new iMac computers for you to use- travel stations to print boarding passes, there are lounge areas everywhere for small gatherings and a gorgeous front desk area. The rooms and decor are also beautiful. The service was excellent- everyone was extremely friendly and kind...It's a couple blocks from the metro, in the heart of a ton of other hotels- but easily the prettiest. I paid $99/night for a standard room- (noted on the door, the room rate was usually $499...) The bathroom was beautiful- a large standing shower (not tub)- again- fitting with the same theme as the rest of the hotel- visually stunning. Floor to ceiling windows made sunrise over the city a welcome thing. The restaurant (as most hotels' dining areas are) was pricey- but really good and I believe used several local foods- which is nice to see.

The negatives- which are few-
If you drive, you'll pay about $20 a night for parking (maybe a smidge more)- but we got such a sweet deal on the room- it didn't seem terrible.
You have to pay for wi-fi- but like I said, there are iMacs in the lobby you can use for free... (6 or 8 of them- they were never full)
The pool- although nice- is really small and staffed (quite unnecessarily) with a life guard... so if you're looking for a relaxing swim with a friend or partner- be prepared to share it with a stranger...
Thin walls- granted- I've YET to stay in a hotel where I thought the sound-proofing was adequate-

Overall- this place was really great. It's so pretty- and clean- and inviting... and comfortable and just... a visual experience of its own... I'd recommend this place to anyone staying in this area.

Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights early October when visiting D.C.

what we like:

1. very clean room
2. plenty of towels etc.
3. computers in lobby for free internet access
4. free shuttle to Metro (every 20~30 minutes) and to airport (not sure about the frequency)
5. helpful front desk staff

what we don't like:

1. $22/night for self-parking in their garage ($27/night valet parking) that we did not expect
2. expensive on-site restaurant, no free breakfast
(1 & 2 might be typical for a 3.5/4 star hotel near DC?)
3. no nearby restaurants or shops (we had our breakfast and dinner at/near metro station the two days we were there)
4. hotel location is not on GPS (they said it is a new hotel) and roads are confusing

Some of these "dislikes" are not the hotel's fault, but I would not choose to stay here again if come to DC.
