I would have never known what those "metal points" were if this hadn't been included on Signature Tours. This was a beautifully down tribute to the Air Force (which my grandfather and some cousins served in), and the 3 metal points are to resemble the Missing Man formation jettrails. There are some quotes, walls, and statues in addition to the large metal points. It apparently can be difficult to find, but it's near Arlington National Cemetery. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to look, but there was also a small gift shop.

The Air Force Memorial, set on top of a hill overlooking the Pentagon and Washington, draws all eyes upward to the three gigantic columns shooting up into the sky. It is a fitting memorial for the men and women who provide security for the nation from the skies. The view over to downtown Washington is magnificent with its numerous monuments in full view. The Singing Sergeants hold concerts here every Friday throughout the summer. Their musical selections are varied with fine voices and instrumentalists leading the way for an enjoyable evening. The cooler breezes of the evening enhance the experience. Bring chairs for the evening events as the seating is limited.

As an Air Force veteran this monument holds special meaning for me. A little different than the rest and somewhat "artsy" , but it grew on me. DC really is a fabulous city and it's impossible to run out Of things to see!

A well maintained and unusual monument to remind people about others, who have sacrificed their lives, so that we could live.
Worth visiting as it really is such an unusual monument.
