Most importantly the hotel staff is helpful. I prepaid for a deluxe king (because I read reviews that they'd been renovated) but the room conditions didn't seem to match. I've read several reviews about this hotel having a retro theme and while I thoroughly enjoyed the pink tiled bathroom, in general its more dated than retro. The bathroom is clean and has a medicine cabinet for storing toiletries which some other reviewers did not notice (or may have been too young to look for). That said, the fixtures were dated, not kept the best condition (or replaced by similar pieces found at yard sales) and sadly the workmanship that would have made this retro was lacking and made it just seem less well kept up. Examples of the lack of workmanship would be layers of paint chipping around the light fixtures and hinges, a broken/absent lock on the sliding glass door to the balcony with no plant or other decorative fixture. Apparently the sliding glass doors had been purposefully made un-usable, almost renovated to make way for windows. I would have preferred a window to open for a bit of fresh air, but that was not an option unless I left the sliding glass door open. Alternatively there was an AC unit mounted on the wall. In November this was my heater and the source of any moving air. Unlike many hotels with dual curtains (blackout for sleeping and sheers for a little privacy with light); this is unfortunate because if the curtain is open the room is a fishbowl that overlooks the parking lot and the entrance into the next hotel's parking garage (or hotel rooms). I agree with other customers that the bed was comfortable, but the pillows were not (I didn't really care I just didn't use them) and finally the vanity space outside the bathroom was really just a marble slab with a light fixture. Given that the hair dryer was wall mounted in the bathroom it was less functional as a vanity.
