Most importantly the hotel staff is helpful. I prepaid for a deluxe king (because I read reviews that they'd been renovated) but the room conditions didn't seem to match. I've read several reviews about this hotel having a retro theme and while I thoroughly enjoyed the pink tiled bathroom, in general its more dated than retro. The bathroom is clean and has a medicine cabinet for storing toiletries which some other reviewers did not notice (or may have been too young to look for). That said, the fixtures were dated, not kept the best condition (or replaced by similar pieces found at yard sales) and sadly the workmanship that would have made this retro was lacking and made it just seem less well kept up. Examples of the lack of workmanship would be layers of paint chipping around the light fixtures and hinges, a broken/absent lock on the sliding glass door to the balcony with no plant or other decorative fixture. Apparently the sliding glass doors had been purposefully made un-usable, almost renovated to make way for windows. I would have preferred a window to open for a bit of fresh air, but that was not an option unless I left the sliding glass door open. Alternatively there was an AC unit mounted on the wall. In November this was my heater and the source of any moving air. Unlike many hotels with dual curtains (blackout for sleeping and sheers for a little privacy with light); this is unfortunate because if the curtain is open the room is a fishbowl that overlooks the parking lot and the entrance into the next hotel's parking garage (or hotel rooms). I agree with other customers that the bed was comfortable, but the pillows were not (I didn't really care I just didn't use them) and finally the vanity space outside the bathroom was really just a marble slab with a light fixture. Given that the hair dryer was wall mounted in the bathroom it was less functional as a vanity.

Room Tip: Confirm that the room type selected and paid for was actually offered.

Thank you for staying at Americana Hotel and writing a review. It's nice to know you appreciated our helpful staff, and we'll be sure to let them know. We apologize for any confusion about our standard (traditional theme with bedspreads, currently on the 3rd and 4th floors) versus deluxe (contemporary theme with duvets and bed skirts, currently on the 1st and 2nd floors) rooms; in the future, if you have been inadvertently placed in the wrong room type, please let our front desk staff know so we can correct the error. We want our guests to be happy to stay with us and try to make it right if there's been a mistake. Thank you for the suggestions on the sheers; we are passing that along so maybe you'll see it if you stay with us again. We apologize that you didn't like our vanity areas. We've worked really hard on them, building them by hand and paying for expensive granite tops in the hopes that our guests would enjoy a beautiful mirrored space to get ready, but everyone's taste and expectations are different and we're sorry we did not meet yours. Sometimes we aren't the right hotel for people, being a very economical, limited service option in an area crowded with $200+ per night full-service hotels, and we understand that.

Thank you again and best wishes!

Best value by far in the Arlington area. If you are looking for no frills, clean and comfortable then this is the place for you when staying in the DC area. Decor may be dated but actually adds to the charm of this conviently located hotel. Close to Metro, shopping and Pentagon. Staff is extremly friendly and accomodating and seemed genuine in making sure that our needs were taken care of. Breakfast is basic but has something for everyone and never short on supply. Coffee was always available in lobby. Have stayed in the Crystal City area many times on business and pleasure and this was the best value and just as comfortable as any other location I have stayed which have charged as much as three times what I paid during the same time of year. Free parking saves you as much as $18 per day. Looking forward to staying there again.

My wife and I reserved for two nights at the Americana. I had stayed here about 18 years ago and not much changed from what I see, except only one elevator was working. We paid $193.06, to include tax, for a Saturday and Sunday night, for a king bed. There was a 32 inch flat screen TV, but there was some sort of interference that deraded the picture. The room was clean and everything worked. The cleaning ladies were very helpful. The room had a refrigerator.

The wireless internet was a major hassle. I would have to leave the room, go to a sitting area at the end of the hall, then attempt to acquire the wireless signal. You better stay fully dressed if you care to use the internet. The continental breakfast offering was OK. They had Dunkin Donuts, but they didn't seem fresh. Then again, my wife and I got pretty sick while we were there so my ability to taste may have been altered. Parking is free. The hotel is very close to Ronald Reagan Airport and to US 1 (takes you right into Washington, D.C.). There is a rack of tourist brochures in the lobby to aid you in your sightseeing. I recommend taking the Metro if you do not have an aversion to walking around.

TIP: Unless you have a problem with regular BMs, do not order a pizza from Mom's. Choose a different brochure in the lobby for delivery to your room.

Thank you for staying at Americana Hotel and writing a review. We're glad to hear you enjoyed the cleanliness of our property along with the helpfulness of our staff and will be sure to pass it along to our entire team. We're saddened to hear that your stay was affected by illness, especially considering how negatively it can impact a trip away from home, and hope you both recovered quickly. Regarding our continental breakfast, we receive fresh pastry deliveries from a local bakery every morning around 5am and if we run out before 10am, pick up reinforcements from the Dunkin' Donuts around the corner. We don't save pastries from one day to the next, so we're not sure what happened with the item(s) you tried. Thank you for mentioning our free value added amenities and convenient location, and we'll second your recommendation for taking the Metro around the area; it really is the best option!

Warm Regards,
Americana Hotel

For the Location this is an amazing price. If all you need is a clean bed this is for you. The exterior is shabby the amenities are few and low end but the bedding was new and fresh and the mattress was firm and appeared fairly new. Bathroom was small and dated, furnishings were old and worn. But it served my purpose well and I am grateful for the value. Thank you!

Room Tip: Hard to find from the street.

Thank you for staying with us and writing a review to help others determine if we're a good fit for them. As a limited-service, affordable option amidst a sea of $200+ per night hotels, we're glad to hear you appreciated our great value and amazing location and will pass it along to our team. In regards to the dated rooms, we would like to let you know that we have both standard (traditional decor) and deluxe (contemporary decor) rooms available so perhaps you would prefer a deluxe room if you stay with us again. We've just renovated them with new paint, trim, beds, bedding, draperies, carpet, flat screen TVs, and a granite vanity area across from the bathroom, and we are really happy to be able to offer our less price sensitive guests a more stylish option to meet their preferences a little better. Regardless of the room type, however, we still offer great value-added free amenities like parking, shuttle service, continental breakfast, and Wi-Fi to all of our guests and hope you were able to benefit from them. If we can be of service in the future, please be sure to let us know.

Sincerely,
Americana Hotel

Best hotel in Arlinton. It was my second time there and they improved the quality of the room and the breakfast. It is closed to the metro Station and shopping mall. You can go to restaurants to have dinner with a ride of hotel shuttle. The price is great!

We stayed in the American Motel for four nights during our visit to Washington and were pleasantly surprised. yes, the hotel is a bit outdated..the elevators look like they're from the 70's but other than that it was just perfect.

The room was comfortable and clean and breakfast had a big selection of donuts and bagels, which was fine too. Better than in most motels at least.

The best part of this hotel are the location and price though. Seriously, you can't beat that.
We stayed 3 nights for the price of one night in the city. And the metro is a short 5 minute walk away and brings you to the Mall or downtown in just 3 or 4 stops.
Tip: take the shortcut through the grass from the hotellobby: it saves you a walk around the block.

Area is really safe: the hotel is surrounded by big chains like Hilton and Sheraton so no problems there.
Downtown Alexandria is a 10 minute drive and a wonderful place to go for dinner if you didn't want to eat in the city. Arlington Cemetery is just 2 metrostops away as well.

Staff was also very pleasant. Except for their response to emails: we emailed 3 times during our vacation if we could add an extra night to our reservation but got no reply whatsoever. Eventually we called and it was no problem.
During our stay we had to print a few things like confirmations for our White House visit and our boarding passes and they printed them without charging.

This is a great deal for someone wanting to save money. Other hotels in the neighbourhood are much more luxurious and cost 2 to 3 times as much as this place. It's motel-style with minimal comforts but they cover the important things: comfortable bed, hot water, plenty of space to move around and a basic breakfast (bagels, muffins, oranges).
I was pleased that the walk to the metro was much easier than expected. The highway worried me, but I avoided it by walking through the mall and then through the Marriot Gateway, and then I was two minutes from the Americana.
The shuttle was a nice bonus but I never used it except for arrival and departure with suitcases.
The only negative was the walls were a bit thin: One morning I could hear a baby crying for quite a long time. The other 5 nights/mornings were quiet, though.
I will definitely stay here again when I go back to Washington.
