I've stayed at this hotel many times over the years. Actually, I do think it's showing its age even more as the years pass. Maybe I'm just nostalgic about it. Because of its location close to my office, it's my preferred hotel.

Basically it's your standard, older Comfort Inn property. The rooms are fairly generously sized, and sometime in oddly irregular shapes because of how the building is laid out. It's your standard TV and desk and whatnot, and a low-end bathroom. Some of the rooms can smell a bit musty. There's a standard low-quality bathroom that works, mostly. And there's wireless Internet for free, an Indian restaurant adjoining it, a rental car facility in the hotel, a little gift shop (never been in), and a metro station and a number of restaurants about six blocks away. (I'd feel comfortable walking here during the weekday, when business workers are around, but not at night when it can be somewhat deserted.)

Now, there's two exceptionally bad things about it. The 'continental breakfast' of my past stay was horrible! There were four dirty tables, and some stuff that looked unappealing, it just looked very dumpy. I snagged a packet of oatmeal and there was no room to eat, and it looked like I wouldn't have wanted to there if there was room. I took the oatmeal to work and made it there.

The other thing is security in the lower parking garage. I do park there as a single female traveler but it feels very grungy, poorly lit, and unsafe. It does make me nervous being down there. That's also where the exercise room is, all isolated, and I will not go there by myself after work to exercise. Even with a lock on the door, it's very isolated and I definitely wouldn't feel safe there.

My husband and I stayed at the Comfort Inn Ballston for 2 nights. The hotel feels like a low-end Motel 6. We paid $200 per night for something that should have been priced at $50 per night.
Service:
When we arrived at 9:30pm to check in, there was no one at the front desk or in the lobby. There was no bell to ring. After waiting 10 minutes and calling out "hello" I dialed the hotel's 800 number and they had to page someone in order to come out to the front desk and check us in. The man who did check us in did not greet us or apologize, and gave us a room with 2 double beds rather than the queen room that we had reserved. Again, no apology, just stated that there were no queen rooms.

The second night a group of noisy teenagers were having a party in the room next to ours. I called the front desk to complain twice, and nothing was done about it. It lasted until well after 2am. Even with ear plugs, I could not get to sleep.

Comfort:
The interior of the hotel is shoddy and cheap. Very generic/ugly decor, neon lights, cigarette odors, and a squeaky elevator. The room was very musty/mildewy, the beds were passable, the pillows were flat and left a lot to be desired.
The "continental breakfast" was a joke: 3 bruised apples, 2 stale donuts, and some cold cereal. I am not exagerrating.
The free wireless in the rooms barely chugged along. It was impossible to get any work done. I would have rather paid for wireless that actually worked.

In general, our experience was very negative, and we will not stay here ever again.

I never intended to stay at this hotel - had a reservation at the nearby Holiday Inn, but because of a flood in some of the rooms, the Holiday Inn sent me to the Comfort Inn. The room at the Comfort Inn was dismal - it smelled stale, the bed was hard and lumpy, the linens were torn and stiff, the bathroom was in desparate need of remodling - torn and stained shower curtains, scratched and discolored tub, etc. and the batteries in the tv remote were dead. The staff were very inattentive - every time I asked for anything I seemed to be interrupting a personal call, and when I did get their attention, they couldn't - or wouldn't- do anything to answer my questions. Considering the room was the same price as the Holiday Inn, I couldn't believe how much lower in quality and comfort it was. They say they will be renovating soon - not soon enough for me unfortunately!

This hotel is in need of updating. Stale smelling but clean room and very worn furnishings/wallpaper/fixtures. The hotel staff was the BEST part of this hotel, very friendly, & helpful. But the linens were torn & old, and the hotel was weathered. The last update must have been 1987 when it was new. The "fitness" center is in the parking garage, unattended and unlocked, with a large supply of porn magazines on the shelves. Don't let your kids run free here.

All in all though, it was one of the cheapest rooms available ($239/night) and for this area, that's not bad. Easy to get to from the airport - and close to a Metro stop.

Good parking available - also rare in this area.
Safe.

Reception staff were on the ball and very quick throughout, important for a busy day (UK hotels NB!).Good sized room was well serviced and good for working in as needed. Convenient for NSF and eateries not far. Staff even looked after my bags after checkout -try that in mid-range hotel in UK!
