“Just Beautiful”

I saw this at night and the light just made this sculpture electrifying. It is so well made and I reckon if you are short on time and looking to see memorials this is on the must see list. If you walk around the sculpture it gives the illusion that you are watching the flag being planted but regardless of this visual illusion it is just such an evocative piece of art.

“Every angle is a different story”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 29, 2013

This is but one of the awe inspiring monuments in the Washington DC area - this one on the Arlington side of the Potomac, next to the National Cemetery. The sculpture of the marines planting the flag at Iwo Jima is not only a powerful reminder of our hard-won victory against the Japanese in WWII, but in the faces of each individual soldier you can practically hear their individual stories of a war gone on too long, and at great expense. I photographed many angles and was stunned at what they revealed when I looked at them later. This is really a monument worth studying for the many stories it has to tell. In addition, come around sunset and get a glorious view of the city.

“A monument to the Marines”

The photo brought to massive dimensions is breathtaking and somber, as it should be. The Park is sparse, thus encouraging to focus on the monument. Do not miss the view across the Potomac though.

“A must see for people from all countries”

Actually, this statue is enormous, very photogenic, well located and well signposted.
Well worth the visit for anyone, especially ( but not only) for those interested in military history.

“unexpected gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 3, 2013

I have driven by the memorial many times but never stopped. Since I was staying in Rossyln it was an easy walk from the hotel. The sculpture is beautiful, but reading the signs surrounding the statue is interesting and thought provoking. I learned a lot. Wish I had seen it at night.
