“Great Memorial”
Reviewed August 11, 2011

Great memorial and is very large. Nice to be able to park close but it is hard to get to if you don't know where you are going. It does have some placards with the history of this memorial how this was the 2nd flag raised not the 1st flag. After this you can go to Arlington National Cemetary but that is hard to get to from here also even though you can see it across the street.

“Impressive”
Reviewed August 10, 2011

The Iwo JIma Memorial takes your breath away. It is so impressive and truly evokes emotion; you feel the moment it depicts. Seeing the iconic photograph turned into this massive sculpture was an amazing feat that our group truly appreciated. We hired a private driver for the day who brought us here so I am not sure how easy it is to get to but it would be worth a visit. In addition to the beauty of the Memorial, the view of the city is gorgeous.

“Awe Inspiring”
Reviewed August 4, 2011

Don't miss this memorial. It was even more massive and moving than I'd imagined. The view toward DC is amazing as well. After wearing our legs out walking the rest of the DC metro area, it was nice to be able to park for free 200 feet from the memorial and walk a short distance.

Getting to it is a bit difficult. From Arlington Cemetery, you must follow Washington Blvd out of the traffic circle to Arlington Blvd without exiting to George Washington Memorial Pkwy (very confusing naming), exit at Meade/Lynn street when you see the first overpass above the road just as you come around a corner, turn left over that overpass following Meade St., turn left at Marshall Dr., then turn left again at the memorial's access road. Google shows access from Marshall Dr to Wilson Blvd/Hwy 110, but I'm pretty sure it was blocked off when we were there. To leave, we just retraced our path and took the ramp to southbound GWMP from Meade St.

Highly recommended.

“Massive.”
Reviewed July 19, 2011

The Marine Corps memorial is off of the beaten path and a little difficult to get to. It is massive and on a knoll, so it is easily viewed from a distance. The sculpture depicts a very famous photo from World War II, and it truly does justice to the struggle that the Marines faced on Iwo Jima.
Take your time while here and focus on the faces of the figures. Bring a camera to take the scene home. Also, count the hands in the memorial...
BTW, the family of every Marine K.I.A. receives a flag flown over this memorial. I witnessed the ceremony of raising, saluting, and lowering each flag when we were here. Very moving.

“Such a gorgeous memorial with great views of the city”
Reviewed June 24, 2011

Sitting at the edge of Arlington National Cemetery, Iwo Jima is a fantastic memorial. It's much larger in person than it looks in photos. Also, we attended the Sunset Parade featuring the Marine marching band and Silent Drill team. Absolutely incredible performances, and at no charge! They only play on Tuesdays in the summer, but it's so worth it.
