My husband and I went to Momo recently and it did not dissapoint. The sushi was fresh and the experience was excellent as usual. Momo is in a smaller townhouse and has both upstairs and downstairs dinning. The tables are close together but it works and it feels like you have just been transported to Japan. Wonderful spot if you want a Japanese meal!

“Not bad”
Reviewed January 22, 2012

It's a really tiny spot that doesn't make reservations (it may have 2 floors), and it was packed when we went on a Saturday nite (around 6:30pm). The sushi was good (it's actually between "average" & "very good" on this rating) and the wait-staff knew what she was doing and was able to accommodate my request. I'd go back.

Great food. Cool sushi chefs. Awesome neighborhood. Best if you are staying in Alexandria. Don't think I would travel from downtown.

“Excellent Sushi in Old Town”
Reviewed November 10, 2011

I can't say enough about the quality of the sushi here. Always fresh and properly prepared. I love the eel with salmon skin rolls. You can find lunch specials under $10.00. A bowl of miso soup, green salad, and a well-made sushi or sashimi roll and I'm happy all day.

The tables upstairs have a beautiful view of trees decorated with twinkle lights at night.

“A great restaurant with ever-increasing clientele!”
Reviewed November 1, 2011

One bebefit of living in the Greater Washington, DC area is having access to an abundance of restaurants with a diverse palette of cuisines. I enjoy all kinds of food and consider myself a gourmet diner, yet I'm quite partial to Sushi and have tried many different Sushi restaurants all over the world. But in this area, my vote and my loyalty go to MoMo Sushi & Cafe in Old Towne Alexandria.

MoMo has become one of the most frequently-visited tiny restaurans here and in a way a cult of its own; owing to the freshness of their food, the variety of the menu selections and the friendliness of the staff. This is not a place for the "slam-dunk, dash-in dash-out" crowd! What you need to bring along is patience, friendliness and the readiness for a cozy dining experience in a tiny but very quaint and casual nook.On more than one occasion, I've seen patrons at different tables sampling each others' dishes and engaging in friendly conversations with one another--this is the non-cyber version of socializing, I guess!

From the street, you look into the main level, small dinig area with 6-8 tables and the inviting Sushi Bar. The entrance is--again--tiny and narrow and quite often you find patrons waiting for their table as they line up against the wall so as to allow the leaving guests squeeze by out the door. But no one ever complains and no one gets upset because the culinary rewards are well worth waiting for. There's another dining area upstairs with another 8-10 tables and a Sushi bar, but the main level dining room is favored by most.

You can't help aaahing and ooohing over mouthwatering flavors of the food served here, made from fresh ingredients and served in tastefully-arranged presentations and may find yourself ordering more food just to stay a little longer.

So, if you like Sushi or other Japanese dishes and happen to be in the area, give MoMo a try, you won't regret it. I have enjoyed dining at MoMo a few times a month over the past five years and will gladly go back again.
