This isn't your typical hotel. Everything is unique and the staff is very helpful. The rooms are spacious and really well equiped. The style and decor of the hotel is so unique, but yet very inviting. We loved the balcony opening to the courtyard. This hotel focuses to every detail. The rooms have everything that you need including a iPod docking station and an unbrella if you forgot to bring one along. The staff is eager to please and they are always available to assist you. Our room was located next to the ice machine. As a result, we experienced a few unwelcome wake up calls during the night by other guests filling their ice buckets.

Room Tip: Avoid a room near the ice machine and consider a room with a balcony that faces the courtyard.

We've stayed at this hotel from the time it opened and at least once a year. Opening issues , we can accept but it never really improved much until now. Much better although still not running smoothly.

It seems it lacks that little attention to detail. For example, they added on bar charges, after giving us a coupon. They didn't, couldn't take it off, so we couldn't check out online but had to go downstairs to get it done.

Unlike their sister hotel Morrison, they lack that professionalism and personal touch. Casual doesn't equate personal. To be fair, Morrison is a smaller hotel, but we just came from the Palomar in Philadelphia.

The Palomar gets an A+. representing the best of the Kimpton Chain, and none of the negligence equated with being "casual, and laid back". An informal , warm atmosphere isn't the same as being lax. It's a thin red line.

Still not satisfied with the place, better but will definitely stay at Morrison. To be fair , for families, it's more convenient to be at Palomar, with a pool, and noisier. However, we have to try the Lorien.

Room Tip: Higher floors are quieter, rooms over courtyard also. But in the warmer weather, courtyard can be noisy if they have functions there. On the whole, hotel needs updating, even though it's only been opened a few years. AC can be noisy on some floors.

Dear welshpembrokecorgi,

Thank you for your continued support of our hotel, we appreciate your business and that you have come back repeatedly over the years!

Certainly your point is valid and well taken. We do like to have fun, not to take ourselves too seriously and to create an atmosphere that is unique in today's often impersonal world of hotels. But that can not mean sacrificing service levels and in fact our drive to provide personalized service is meant to elevate that experience to a proper balance between stylish/unique and quality/care. We can achieve both, often do, but on occasion we can fall short. Please rest assured that your feedback will help drive us even more to be consistent in the high level of service we provide.

Thank you again and looking forward to seeing you in the future!

Matt

I also stayed at the Monaco back in August of this year. Interesting because I also had an issue with a reservation. I had asked for an adjoining room, one king and one queen. When I arrived, I was giving rooms across from one another. I was traveling with my 74 year old mother and adjoining rooms were very important to me . I also didn't feel really good about the clerk that tried yo assist me , he was not very empathetic about my situation. This was after speaking with at least two people from the hotel about my arrangements prior to my visit. I also expressed concerns via email and not a word. Interested how some of the same feedback is similar from potential customer to another.

Dear DarkKnight34,

Thank you for sharing your comments here, I deeply regret that we were not able to honor your connecting room request during your stay back in August, and that you did not feel the team here reacted accordingly to the situation. Please accept my apologies.

We will review your feedback as a group and work hard to improve from it.

We hope to have another opportunity to serve you in the future and show you the great things we are capable of as so many here have noted!

Take care,

Matt

This hotel out does all others when it comes to family, friends and community. Not only are the rooms refreshing, I think the decorater had fun giving guests the feeling they had me in mind. It is a Dog Lovers paradise. Dawson the Cocker Spaniel even got his own bed and water bowl compliments of the house. Dog Happy Hour is every Tuesday and even if you do not have a pet, guests will make new friends while drinking house wine, beer and complimentary snacks. The staff know how to spoil children with fun food and and amenities made for children. If you go out without your pet, just hang a fido is sleeping door notice on your door to not be disturbed, but the help loves your pet. Location is the best in Old Town Alexandria and close to everything.

Room Tip: Rooms are quiet and if you do not have a pet, you may request a gold fish for company.
