“Good Amenities, Great bartender and shuttle driver”
Reviewed February 2, 2010

We booked this hotel through Hotwire and saved some money on the room rate. Once we got checked in, we went down to the front desk and they recommended that we take the free shuttle down to King St. Tesfay, the driver was wonderful, very friendly and knowledgeable. It snowed on our trip and they still ran the shuttle to and from the hotel. When we were either waiting on the shuttle or coming back from sightseeing we took advantage of the bar downstairs. Wanda was absolutely wonderful, the drinks were great and the service even better. The Lobster Mac n' Cheese and the Mussels with Garlic were to die for! Really reasonable prices. As far as room svc's go, we did not use it, we went to the cafe across the street or einstein brothers for breakfast which saved $$$. The beds were nothing to write home about, the sheets were hard and the mattress was not what we are used to at other Westin Hotels. Parking was valet only unless you found a spot on the street, at $12 a day for valet, I will park on the street if I can next time. Overall this was a great place to stay.

This hotel is perfectly located near the Metro station and not far from King Street. It's got a decent bar inside. The rooms are typical Westin--spacious and nice;y done. But for us the kicker was their shuttle driver Tesfay. Trust me--if you want to know where to go, eat, what to see, etc. just ask him and he'll take you there. He gave us the inside scoop on a few things and all were lovely choices. And he's a delightful character. He showed us a few little sights along the way too--really a colorful local gent. He even told us how to get to Dulles w/o paying a fortune, etc. We will stay here again for the location, amenities, and experience and hope to see Tesfay again.

I really should not whine about this hotel since I stayed for very little thanks to Priceline, but I had some issues with this Westin. When we arrived, after an 8 hour drive, we asked the doormen to give us a few minutes to gather ourselves and stuff....they would not leave us alone. Next, I was inside the hotel with my daughter waiting to check-in and trying to resolve a private issue with her and I could not get the manager and bellhop away from me......I like service, but this was intrusive. Anyway, the room was ridiculously warm and we had to blast the AC all night even though it was 30 outside. Most annoying is that at 11:30 we had to call the front desk because the people next to us were so loud there was no way we could sleep....walls like paper I guess. After hundreds of hotels stays, this is probably one of 5 times I have had an issue with noise and only the second time I have had to bring it to the front desk's attention. Fortuantely they did take care of the "party" in the room next door very promptly. We took a short dip in the hot tub......not clean is all I can say and not expected at a hotel of this level.

On a positive note, this was a very pretty hotel with a spacious room and bathroom. They run a free shuttle to King Street and the staff is trying very hard to be accommodating. The room was very clean and the bed very comfortable.

We had a great time staying at the Westin in Alexandria. The lobby was nice, the staff was very nice and the room was great. We did have 5 of us and it was tight sleeping since they would not give us a cot. It was my husband and I along with our 3 children, 14, 12 and 9. I think we will now have to find hotels with 2 beds and a pull out couch. The hotel had a shuttle that took us into Old Town that was very conveinent.

We stayed at the Westin to see the sights of D.C. and also for New Years. It was an amazing experience. Although the rooms were simple, the service was the best I have seen. Everyone was very courteous, helpful, warm, and friendly! We were sad to go.

We chose the Westin Alexandria for a one-night stay only because it was located very close to a wedding reception we were attending in Alexandria. We received a handicapped-accessible room (which is highly inconvenient if you are not handicapped--there is no bath vanity to place your things on, for example; the "closet" is located at waist level, and the entire bathroom floor gets wet when you shower because there is no tub and no shower doors, just a curtain). In all fairness, I am certain that the hotel staff would have placed us in another room if we made the request, but we checked in after a five-hour drive and just one hour before we needed to leave for the wedding we were attending, so we did not bother. Be certain that you specifically request a non-handicapped-accessible room if you choose this hotel. The room was typically Westin--adequate and nothing more. Housekeeping was fine and all the staff were friendly enough. Valet parking costs an additional $12 per night on the weekend, but there is no convenient parking on the street (street parking has a two-hour limit) as the hotel is in the business district. Nor is there a hotel lot where you can park your own car. Breakfast here is also fine but a complete rip-off (which is clearly the reason there were only three tables occupied at 8:30 on a Monday morning). We spent nearly $50 for a simple two-eggs and ham breakfast for two. Coffee was $4.50, and juice was $4. If you stay here, do yourself a favor and have breakfast in the coffee shop across the street and save a lot of money. All in all, there are probably far better choices in Alexandria but they may cost you a little more.

We stayed at the hotel Oct 16 to 19th... Called in advance to make sure we could get a quite room so we could sleep... Arrived at 2:30 so we could get a good room... The front desk seemed helpful... Gave us a room on the top foor, but it was next to the Presidental Suite..that had been rented out to a wedding party...and I mean party.. First night they where load in the hall way... told management about it and they said they were Sorry and it would not happen again... Then it got worse.... I then talked to the manager on duty for the hotel..he also said he was sorry and would move us, but Sundy night should be OK.
He was on duty and had other say something about the noise also...
They at this point have done nothing and I would not STAY at ths Westin again... We have stayed at other Westin and all are very good, but this one is the worst of the worst.....
Also cab driver in DC do no know where the hotel is..so be careful and make sure you know the phone # and address when going out.....
Not a good place to stay..... If you want someone to say I am SORRY go here...

The Lobby is great... Rooms could use some help...

We are editors for--- www.apinsights.info

This is not a GREAT HOTEL...should not be in the westin Chain... NOT a 4 start, should be a 2 star....

Roger
