A real pleasure - Westin seems to get it right every time! Right next door to the US Patent Office. Close walk (maybe 5 minutes) to the Metro.

This place was awesome. We received an excellent rate by checking out their specials listed on their website. We got to the hotel late about 11:30 pm and check in was very easy. All of the staff was very friendly and the men operating the valet service always greeted us and opened the door when they weren't busy with customers. The room was good size and we had double beds that were very comfortable. Husband liked the tv. The daughter and I really enjoyed the shower with the double shower heads. The air conditioner was not loud in our room and we slept fine. Did not hear a peep from any neighbors. No view but that didn't matter to us. The hotel is in a safe area and only about 3 blocks from the King Street Metro station. We felt very comfortable walking to and from the hotel, even at night. The valet parking is $24 per night but there is plenty of street parking which is free after 5:00 pm and on weekends. We didn't eat at the hotel restaraunt. We will definitely stay here again if we come back to this area. Beautiful hotel.

We stayed at the Westin because we found a great rate online.
Check in and front desk: Check in was fine.
Location: The Westin seems to be in the business district so on the weekends there's not a lot going on (which we liked). It is in walking distance to Einstein and Brueggers bagels, Starbucks, Whole Foods. There is a shuttle going to Old Town but we never used it- we drove as parking was free and plentiful and we wanted to see the area.
Parking: Everyone in other reviews complains about the valet parking so we were prepared to shell out extra money to park- street parking is FREE in Alexandria all weekend and after 5pm. Coming from a town where 25 cents buys you 8 minutes on the meter even on Sundays, this was a pleasant surprise. We did not use valet parking and were never more than a block or two from the hotel. We did not pay a dime to park in Old Town or near the hotel.
The room: We had the cheapest available room with king sized bed. We had a view of nothing really but we were there to see Alexandria and get some sleep! The bed was comfortable and clean. The TV was huge and HBO is always nice. The air conditioner was obnoxiously loud for being brand new- we stuffed toilet paper in the vents to keep them from rattling so much they kept us up, and that fixed it, but we almost had to change rooms at 4 am because of it. Wireless and internet in the room was free but the wireless wasn't actually working so we plugged in from our room.
The bathroom: the bathroom was nice but nothing exceptional. Double shower heads if you're into that. Single sink vanity. Nice toiletries.
Amenities: We went to the indoor pool. They have lounges that look out a window onto the street. It was ok, very clean, no complaints. The gym is right next door and they have a decent sized gym with a variety of machines.
Food: we ordered room service from Jameison the last day. I had the egg white omelet and bowl of berries- all awesome. Husband had the crisp waffle with pears and pecans which was soggy and had neither pears nor pecans. But he ate it anyway and proclaimed it good.
I would stay here again! It's not the most romantic place but it's very comfortable and exactly what we were looking for.

Yes, it a lovely hotel with nice rooms, but they spoil it by charging you an enormous $24 a night for valet parking and you can't self park.

The good first: Clean, nice design, comfortable room. Nice bed and good shower (when you get a regular room). Safe area.
The bad: Requested 2 double bed room through expedia but was placed in a king size handicap room. I get that we got there late and got the leftovers, but my mom had called the day before and was assured that they had my preferences, and no mention was made about getting there in time to get the 2 double beds. So I didn't get a bathtub. They did move me to a 2 double bed room the next night. Walls are thin. Party next to us the second night. and it is about a 10 minute walk to everything. so not a lot close to the hotel. Also, take snacks w/ you to the hotel. no drink machines or snack machines at night. and you don't want to pay $10 for a thing of peanuts. It was a decent place but I don't think I'd go back.

The Westin Alexandia is in a safe location within a 20 minute walk to the busy dining areas of Old Town. The hotel itself is a typical cookie-cutter Westin hotel (clean, white sheets and towels, Starbucks coffee in the room, bathrobes, etc., except that it has an LCD TV. It is clean with an on-site Starbucks. We didn't eat at the hotel, given all the great dining options on the strip. Only valet parking is available at roughly $20 per night. Service was average.

I stayed at the Westin Alexandria for one night on a business trip. The hotel is typical Westin, comfortable Heavenly Beds, bathrobe, and the Heavenly Bath (although one showerhead is turned off to conserve water--you can turn it on manually by pressing a button). Although I had requested a room with a king-sized bed, I was told at check-in that only rooms with 2 double beds were available. When I asked how long the wait would be until a king bedded room was available, I was told, "Well, check-in isn't until 3pm." But it was 2:47PM! I ended up agreeing to the 2 double bedded room but they gave me a room with a pretty view of the Masonic George Washington Memorial as a thanks. The fitness room was fine--could have used more ellipticals and I prefer Precor to Life Fitness machines. I was told that the small lobby has free wireless internet access but you have to pay for it in the rooms. The surrounding area in Alexandria is really quite bleak--only office buildings and a few cafes. Whole Foods is a few blocks away. The US Patent Office and a US District Courthouse were very close by. All in all, this was a fine hotel for business and Westins do have the best beds.
