“good dinner”
Reviewed August 6, 2014

We went to Daniel O'Connell's for, what was for us, a late dinner. After 9:00 the restaurant was still pretty full and noisy in a fun way. There was live Irish music playing inside. The decor is interesting with seats and other items from old churches, castles, etc. Cool to just look around. This was the first time I ever ordered "real" fish and chips. The fish was light and delicious, some of the best I've had. Fries were good. Hot vinegar was available on the side so we both tried just a little. Neither of us liked it. My husband loved his lamb burger. The service was fine. We are not drinkers so just had soft drinks. Prices are normal for that area. Would definitely recommend this restaurant for a couples night out.

“great food”

This place has great food for a reasonable price, considering the location. the atmosphere is very relaxed and has the vibe of an Irish bar. different levels upstairs give the impression the place goes on forever.

“A little touch of authenticity”
Reviewed July 21, 2014

The inside was quite similar to those in Ireland and the UK. The staff was fast and efficient and the beer selection was pretty good. The spinach and strawberry salad could have used a little less dressing and more goat cheese. The lamb burger was juicy and flavourful. The bread pudding was like a clump of warmed edible playdough. I was rather disappointed in that as it was what drew me in initially. That aside, I'd go back; just not for dessert

“Old Fashioned Irish Charm”
Reviewed July 15, 2014

I visited both O'Connell's and Murphy's in Old Town this weekend. I ordered the exact same thing....shepherd's pie and a pint of Guinness (pretty standard). Guinness was delicious at both, atmosphere wonderful at both (old fashioned Irish pub), service was good at both. Style of shepherd's pie can vary, and it did. Murphy's was more my style with smashed potatoes, melted cheddar and tasty gravy. O'Connell's was parmesan crusted mashed potatoes over the beef and a bit dry. Both pies were tasty. Whatever edge Murphy's pie had was offset by the charming Irishman who served us at O'Connell's....I'll call it a draw. You should be pleased at either...bain sult as an saol!
