Worth a visit for the old fire apparatus. The company started in 1774 & this firehouse opened in 1855. Only open 1-4 PM on Saturday & Sunday.

My husband and I had never seen a museum devoted to a firehouse before and we decided to stop in while on a recent trip to Alexandria. Although it's small, the museum was great! The main floor houses historic firefighting equipment. The second floor contains exhibits devoted to the history of the Friendship Firehouse. Its association with Presidents of the United States was particularly fascinating and we enjoyed reading all the responses from Presidents thanking the Firehouse for their honorary membership. This is definitely worth a stop while in Alexandria!

Learning about the former firehouse rivalries in Old Town was fun, and the old fire fighting equipment is really cool. Good for kids and adults.

---Two adults who enjoy doing creative things and seeing museums. This was our first visit to this small museum. We paid $2.00 each for admission to the event which, I think, included one pre-baked, dough ornament each. Each additional ornament cost $1.00.
---The event was held on the second floor where there were two long tables and, possibly, a smaller table(s) in the next room. All chairs at the tables I could see were taken. We each selected one ornament from a variety of pre-baked dough shapes such as fire house dog, fire helmet, etc. Baskets of various kinds of markers, which participants shared, were placed on the tables. When a participant was done, a museum member provided a ribbon from which to hang the ornament. It was a fun time.
---Based on observation, a parent had to closely monitor kids under ~ six years so that they would color the ornament and not on the table, walls, each other.
---The fire house was restored in the early 1990's and dates back to 1855. Reels of old hoses, leather water buckets, and an old water pumper stand are located in the museum's Engine Room. There is a small gift shop under the staircase leading to the second floor.
