Description: History has been written inside the walls of the Wharf, with its 1790's style architecture featuring original wood columns and beams that are charred black from a Civil War fire. Since 1971, satisfied diners have been heading to The Wharf in Old Town for whole Maine lobster, local soft shell crabs and prime steaks and chops. The restaurant has recently been renovated and remodeled and the menu updated to include many contemporary seafood items along with their traditional Chesapeake Bay creations. Our 2nd floor Dining Room is perfect for Banquets and Private Parties. Can seat up to 60 people.

“A quiet place to lunch...”
Reviewed November 1, 2012

Granted, my friends and I went for lunch two days after Hurricane Sandy. Fortunately, the restaurant just missed the flooding. The historic building was relatively quiet and perfect for our gabfest lunch. We all four got the daily special...lobster & crab "burger" with a delicious bun, full of lobster meat and not much filling. The "patty" wasn't generous but enough to satisfy us. For $2 extra we were able to substitute a nice tossed salad with a lightly applied creamy dressing for the Old Bay (seafood) seasoning on the fries. One person got the fries and they were good. I also go a cup of the well-regarded she-crab soup, cream and sherry based and full of crab. It was delicious, as other TA reviewers have said. We also got two desserts, a chocolate cake that was like a "soft" fudge cake with raspberry coulis (sauce) and a white chocolate bread pudding with raspberries, to share. Both were very good and perfect for sharing as we each had a couple of bites of each. I will say this lunch was a little pricier than we usually spend but then we got lobster...with tax and tip, we each paid about $34 (there were a couple of cups of tea and coffee, too and a cup of Maryland seafood soup that looked good). Service was average only because the waiter did not remember who had ordered what, which was straightened out at the table.

Enjoyed an exellent dinner at this really nice restaurant. The atmosphere is cosy, the service swift and friendly and the sea food of very high quality! Can really recommend the Creamy Crab Soup and the Lobster Linguini.

“Very good, consistent seafood”
Reviewed October 24, 2012

This place is good for your standard seafood entrees. On the downside, the inside of the restaurant is a bit old, dated and dark. It's best to go on a nice day when you can sit outside. The menu could stand to be updated seasonally, it tends to stick with the same entree selection.

“Loved the crab cakes!”
Reviewed October 20, 2012

Visited the Wharf on Tues. Oct. 9th. Was seated right away, not too busy on a weeknight, very polite and attentive staff. Menu had good selection but I had read about the crab cakes. Tried the crab cakes and was very pleased. Only grip was that portions could have been bigger.

“Superb”
Reviewed October 18, 2012

Once you eat here, you'll just keep coming back for all of your meals. The food is great, service is excellent, and the bartender Gilbert knows how to pour a drink. No need to even think of eating anywhere else in Alexandria!

This is a simple, very nicely decorated place, without the fancy stuff the The Chart House. Only thing missing is a view out over the putrid polluted Potomac, and really, who needs that?
