“Great music and beer”
Reviewed August 8, 2013 via mobile

My husband and I wondered in here by chance! All server were very friendly. Ours was a little slow but it was a very busy night! We both tried traditonal dishes. My husband loved the stew!! We were seated in the back of the restaurant which was a little warm for comfort. The atmosphere was great, full of crowded happy drinking people! :) Plan to come back sometime for beers and to listen to music.

Hi there JbHatfield,

I want to thank you so much for the nice words you posted here on TA and also for your visit to our restaurant back in early August.

We are glad to hear that you both enjoyed the food choices and that the atmosphere was great.

Murphy's offers live music seven nights a week starting at 8.30pm with no cover charge. So the next time you happen to be in town please stop by for a pint and some traditional music.

Enjoy the last few weeks of summer.

Warm Regards,

Kenny Mitchell, General Manager, Murphy's Irish Pub

“Nice and Friendly Restaurant in Old Town”
Reviewed August 3, 2013

We decided to visit this restaurant after reading about it on Trip Advisor. My husband and I had the crabcake sandwich and our son had a pulled pork sandwich. The food was served promptly, the server was friendly, and the atmosphere was nice.

“One of the best meals of our trip!”
Reviewed July 31, 2013

We were surprised to get right in, the place was busy! Nice pub style- it's a pub so we expect the noise. Our waitress was wonderful, she was busy but was very attentive. She also paid attention to our children, and went next to them to make sure she had their order correct. The meals were great and plentiful- we had the Fish and Chips, Irish Meat and Potato Pie, Hot Roast Beef and hamburger. All were wonderful. We loved the live music that night-I believe it was Sanford Markely. Our children rated it as the best meal of the trip.

“Cottage Fries - Never Again!”
Reviewed July 12, 2013

Went to Murphy's to try a different Irish place. The previous evening I had been in a nearby Irish restaurance and upon leaving smelled a delicious serving of fish and chips. So I tried to get a similiar meal at Murphy's. No such luck!

Cottage fries are "wheels" not "sticks" of potatos. When cut too thick they become mushy, unless the restaurant uses a two step preparation of the fries. Whether they did or not, Murphy's cottage fries on this night were mushy. They had little taste and were served too hot to bite into. The fish itself was delicious but also served too hot to bite into. I would suggest that Murphy's use a coolling off period between the meal coming out of the oil and into a patron's mouth. And I'm not buying cottage fries again! Result of this meal was a burned roof of my mouth!

Prices were ok and the Smithwick's beer was wonderful. Next time I'll just drink and listen to the music, but probably somewhere else.

Hello Brian,

I want to thank you for stopping by Murphy's on your visit to Alexandria and also for posting your feedback here on TA. It is because of this valuable feedback that allows Murphy's to move forward and make good where we may be going wrong, thank you. I also hope that you brought your dislike of the fires to the manager on duty and a full refund for the meal was given to you by Murphy's. Please let me know if not so i can send you a cheque in the mail.

On a positive note, i am glad to read that the fish was good, we have been using the same cod for over 30 years caught in the Atlantic Ocean, and the Smithwicks was satisfying. Believe it or not, Murphy's was the 1st pub in Virginia to sell Smithwicks and one of the 1st in America have it available for our guests to purchase.

Again, thank you so very much for your visit and also your feedback.

Warm Regards,

Kenny Mitchell. Genaral Manager. Murphy's Irish Pub.
