“Another great date night”
Reviewed May 26, 2012

We returned to LaBergerie for another Thursday date night (wines 40% off) and had an excellent 1er cru Chablis for $45 instead of $75. The service was excellent as always, and we greatly enjoy the décor and quiet atmosphere.

I had the $65 four-course menu and my wife’s a la carte choices totaled $64. She had the tableside Caesar salad (excellent), soft-shell crab (only good—the peeler had begun to reform its shell so not all shell was edible), squab (very good), and chocolate mousse (excellent). I had the sweetbreads (very good, but I would have preferred somewhat less breading), foie gras (excellent with a pineapple chutney that enhanced it further), shelled lobster flambé tableside (excellent), and raspberry soufflé (excellent).

Despite the slight miss in the crab, we enjoyed the rest of the meal, the service, and the atmosphere so greatly that we could not deny the overall experience the fifth star.

“Good but nothing spectacular”
Reviewed April 30, 2012

This restaurant is focusing on a French style kitchen and service. Overall, we enjoyed the dinner, but, being familiar with the French cuisine, it was not a dinner that I will remember Service was very friendly, the food was correct as was the wine.
For a dinner with 2, we paid 170 $.

“French cuisisne at its best”
Reviewed April 23, 2012

We spent new year's eve at this restaurante in the old town of Alexandria in Virginia. I was amazed at the culinary excellence of the place, the hospitality, the pleasant atmosphere. The menu was exquisite, unforgettable are the tournedos de boeuf, the gateau de chololat, in an unforgettable 4-course dinner, topped with a chateneuf du pape, chateau simian. My palte still remembers it all.

“Wonderful French Cuisine in Perfect Setting”
Reviewed April 14, 2012

We've been attending this superb restaurant for decades and it never disappoints. Where else can you get fresh Dover Sole Au Meuniere so well prepared? All the foie gras perparations are superb and memorable. The Caesar salad unique and excellent. The wine list can be pricey, but one need not over-indulge to find something acceptable. The service is excellent: careful, inobtrusive, and courteous. The owner and host, Lauren, is welcoming, friendly, and deeply involved in taking care of guests. (I am shocked to read that some complain about service here. I can only guess that the kitchen must have been very busy and the author impatient. That happens now and then at all fine restaurants when over-burdened with guests at the same time --and just can't be helped.) All this in an elegant dining setting dominated by very comfortable, semi-circular leather banquets and an attractive brick wall on one side. We've also had larger parties in the attractve private room off the main dining room and have been well taken care of there, too. In short, an Old Town ornament that deserves a visit. If you try it, my bet is you'll return, as we do.
