“Average, but what do you expect from an Irish Bar?”
Reviewed September 13, 2012

Meh. It's an Irish joint, so hopefully you know better than to go in thinking you'll get good food. The atmosphere can be fun if you go in on the right night. But the food is barely standard bar food. Nothing stands out. Just good accompaniment for your beer.

“Basic food, good service, pubby vibe”
Reviewed September 10, 2012

Most Irish pubs look the same, slightly shabby, lots of memorabilia chock-a-block on the walls -- the feel of a workingman's bar -- and Pat Troy's certainly follows the pattern. We stopped here for lunch, attracted by the outside dining options and the wizend, white-haired harpist playing for diners. This is a big restaurant -- one the can easily be divided into sections for large groups. There are two outdoor dining areas -- one overlooking the street and one in a courtyard at the rear. Food is basic pub fare with brunch specials and I'm almost certain, St. Patrick's Day specials as well. I had a pulled pork sandwhich with fries. It came piled on a bun and topped with fried onion straws. Hubby had a Reuben. He liked the nice balance of corned beef to saurkraut served on grilled bread with a side of spicy mustard and fries. Our waitress was friendly and knew all the house beers on offer by heart. The food was good -- nothing amazing, just tasty and filling. We enjoyed it and left feeling pleasantly full but not stuffed. We went in just as the lunch crowd was thinning, so the place was only sparsely filled with people enjoying a late lunch, beer, and football. Most seats are good. You might want to avoid the table on the upper level that's right outside the kitchen unless you enjoy quick glimpses of the business side of the restaurant. I'd like to visit again, on a cold night, when the dark and cozy interior is probably at its best and filled with a crowd of sports fans. We liked it and would probably go again. I could see this place being a neighborhood favorite.

“Great Service & Good Food”
Reviewed September 7, 2012

We've been here a number of times in both large and small groups. We're always seated quickly and never have to wait long for the food to come out.

“Average food, seems overpriced”
Reviewed August 4, 2012

We've been to many Irish pubs and Pat Troy's has impressed us the least.

The fish and chips tasted fine, but they were pretty basic. Portion size not very impressive for the cost ($12). The beef stew is not something I would recommend. It is a slightly orange color with tough chunks of meat and not many carrots or potatoes. Also, it has a spice that's very distinct and wasn't something I enjoyed (bay, maybe?). It came in a shallow bowl and there wasn't much there which was surprising give it cost over $12. The waiter also failed to bring the soda bread described on the menu to go with it. We had to ask for it. He says that a lot of times, the bread "comes back" because people don't eat it because they were not expecting raisins in bread. Hmmm...OK. So you don't bring it to start with?

Overall, my husband enjoyed the beer he had. He liked the stew, but agreed it was overpriced for what you get.

I'm honestly not sure why some people think Pat Troy's is so great. Our server was nice but not overly impressive. We were there on a Saturday afternoon and there were only about 3 other tables occupied.

There are too many restaurants in Old Town to go back to one that is mediocre. With our 20% tip, our bill was nearly $50 for the fish and chips, beef stew, 2 beers and water.

“Felt sick afterwards”
Reviewed July 8, 2012

We just wandered down King St until we found a place that interested us, and Pat Troy's was it. We sat out front and ordered a salad and a burger. Although there were very few people there, the food took quite a while to come out. Our server was average. Our meals were average, but part way through each we both stopped eating, not feeling so well all of a sudden. We paid and left and decided a walk down to the water would do us some good, but by the time we got to the river we both had awful stomach cramps that took about an hour to go away. We cannot recommend Pat Troy's.
