My friend and I treated ourselves to a massage and facial, which was a bit expensive but not in relation to other area spas. We came with high hopes, which they exceeded. You walk in and the pampering begins. You are given a locker and a plush robe. Then, you wait in the most soothing room sipping delicious herbal tea and cucumber water and snacking on luscious trail mixes. The stress is gone before the treatment begins. They make you feel like royalty.

We both had fabulous treatments with very knowledgable professionals and learned some good skin care tips. The dressing room is equipped with a sauna, nice showers and all the amenities you need. The dressing room is a bit small, but that is the only criticism I can think of. We skipped the sauna because we wanted to enjoy one of the hotel's restaurants, Brabo Tasting Room, which couldn't have been better. It was just what we needed. Well done, Lorien. We will be back soon.

I had a manicure/pedicure by the Lorien Spa about 6 months ago. It was pretty good, but a little challenging to schedule. So difficult, I was beginning to think this place was biased against men. Someone had given me a gift card and I wanted to use it. When I finally got it scheduled, the manicure/pedicure was nothing to rave about. Yes, you are treated well. Yes, they offer snacks and water and access to other features, but as for the manicure/pedicure, I've had much better elsewhere for less. Now fast forward to today, Feb 16, 2013. I tried to schedule another appointment to finish off the balance on my gift card. They can't/won't do it. They are fully booked for the next 2 weeks and will not schedule anything beyond that. That's a shame. How does this spa cater to their hotel guests? Isn't the spa one of the major draws to the hotel? Unbelievable. As for the hotel, I live nearby so won't have an opportunity to use it. I've been to the restaurant and it is very good. I've had friends and business associates stay at the hotel and they rave about it. It is also very close to the King Street metro making it very easy to access Washington DC.
