Only disagreement is I wouldn't knock Bistro Lafayette's food...moot point now. BL's servers weren't nice tho, that is true, same as Notting Hill. Both had that French "we're doing you a favor by letting you eat here" attitude.

Again, the above review is spot on...they were out of entrees and they were even out of bread for the table! When we asked for maybe something else in place of the bread (you'd think they'd apologetically throw in a free appetizer) it was like we were crazy. But they were right, we were crazy to eat there.

This restaurant is not to be missed! The food was as good as some of the best I have had in NYC or London (including Gordon Ramsay's restaurants and Thomas Keller's Per Se). I didn't like calamari until I tasted that dish in this restaurant - soooo fresh, batter was soooo light and the drizzle of oyster sauce was perfect. My Basque style Atlantic Cod is the best Cod I have had anywhere - and without the batter (as in Fish and Chips), helped my waistline! The service was superb and apart from the ruffle curtains at the front window (a tad off putting), the decor/ambience is great. They even have a coat service as soon as you walk in and a patio on one side is soon to be prepared and open for the summer. We are planning on taking the family (as in grandkids) to brunch here to try out that menu and we liked it so much we plan to return with friends too.

Finally someone bought the old Le Gaulois space. Sadly, it is a poor substitute for an Old Town gem.  While they have obviously dumped some money into renovations, our food was extremely salty and two items I wanted were missing from the menu. The dessert menu lacked any inspiration. Better to go a few doors down and get a cupcake at Alexandria Cupcake. Seriously!

I won't be eating there again. Nor will I suggest it to my friends. And I will never have a business meeting at this over priced place. But, if you make the decision to try this place, be warned to make sure you know what you are getting for such a very high price point.

Old Town is a tough market. They don't have very nice staff and the food is below par (if they have it!) for King Street. This did in Bistro Lafayette, a few doors down. They should head the lessons from ghosts of restaurants past!

My friend and I tried this new place yesterday for lunch, and I can't wait to return for dinner! The staff was helpful and eager to please (although a bit hovering), and the food was fabulous. The atmosphere and decor are elegant, and there's a piano bar upstairs on the weekends, so I hear. Can't wait to try that out, too! This is definitely a special spot for date night or special occasions, and it looks like they have a great place for private events and business dinners as well.
