“It may look like a high end diner.....”

But the service and mussels are amazing! Serving and flavor is huge! Service is unpretentious and professional. I thought 20 dollars was a it high for mussels but it's a huge serving! Had the chorizo and came back after dinner for the chorizo again and the bacon and Gorgonzola! Delish!

“Quite possibly the best restaurant in Old Town Alexandria”
Reviewed August 30, 2014

I think this is the best restaurant in Old Town....even better than the regular Brabo next door, which is considerably more expensive and stuffy. Unfortunately, the Tasting Room doesn't take reservations, but everything else about it is great. Their torts and appetizers are out of this world. Highly recommend the chilled cucumber soup appetizer and bread pudding dessert. Plus, they always have a wide assortment of wines available by the glass, which is nice. And for the 20 or so times we have eaten here, all of our servers have been super nice and helpful. If you are looking for a wonderful dining experience in Old Town that won't break the bank, this is the place to go.

“Mussels and Tarts worth a visit!”
Reviewed August 17, 2014

I have had the mussels at both Brabo and Brabo Tasting Room. The Tasting Room is more inviting to me and the food is excellent! You can't miss with the classic mussels, but be sure to try a wood fired tart, too. Located about a block from the King Street metro, it's convenient for travelers without a car. There is the free King Street Trolley that can take you all the way to the Potomac. Once at the river, you can enjoy the Torpedo Factory and the most crowded Starbucks in Alexandria. Hop back the Trolley, head back to the metro and stop at Brabo Tasting room for a great glass of wine.

“High Quality in a casual setting”
Reviewed August 5, 2014

Four of us spent a delightful 2+ hours on a Monday night, so we weren't rushed at all. Fine wine list, excellent mussels and beautifully presented steak salad made up dinner. We shared the desserts, which were well made. Excellent French press decaf -something not often seen at eateries of this level. We've been here a few times. This recent visit reminded us of why we go back when we're in Old Town.

“Delightful change from the ordinary!”
Reviewed August 1, 2014

Celebrating my wife's birthday at Brabo Tasting Room provided a wonderfully different restaurant experience. Its simple decor is a sharp contrast with a typical nice restaurant.

Sharing our dishes, we began with a wonderful salad composed of wedges of heirloom and grape tomatoes: red, yellow, purple, and orange. Garnished with a light balsamic vinaigrette and greens, it prepared us for our main dish. Classic mussels were presented in a skillet bubbling with savory broth of garlic and herbs. And what a generous quantity: at least 40 mussels! Tasty bread helped sop up the broth.

Our dessert was a light and tasty fresh peach shortcake: pound cake, peaches, and whipped cream.
A generous French press full of coffee topped off the meal.

They offer a variety of wine in "tastes" (3 oz), "glass" (6 oz) and bottle.

If you want white table cloths, dim lighting, and other formality, the Tasting Room isn't for you. But, with a common table for 8, booths, tables, bar, and pleasant attentive servers, its informal setting is a great place to celebrate a special occasion or simply get together with friends for an excellent meal for the price.
