It was cold and rainy when we checked into the Lorien Hotel and Spa and after a long day of travel and my fourteen year old was ready for an early dinner. So, we sprinted across the courtyard to Brabo's Tasting Room. We were met by a waitperson who initially offered us a table facing the trash cans and high chairs. When we refused that table he begrudgingly gave us a two-top in the main area of the tiny diner, er, "tasting room". Then came the pretentious reciting of the menu, the thinly disguised disdain when I did not order wine (it is, afteralll, a tasting room, ah-hem). The sandwich and soup were good, but not $30.00 good. When we were ready for the check, our waiter ignored us to flirt(under the pretense of reciting the menu and wine list) with a table of young women. I finally had to flag down another waiter for the check. The dining experience was, at best, a good opportunity to teach my fourteen year old about when you tip the bare minimum and consider yourself generous for doing so.
