I almost missed this place, which is next to the Pork Barrel Barbecue on Mount Vernon (and I think they are somehow connected as the receipt said Holy Cow and Pork Barrel??). It is an attractive place, with friendly service.
You choose from a selection of gourmet burgers or build your own; you place your order at the counter in the back, and they give you a playing card to identify what table the order will be delivered to. You can also choose sweet potato or regular fries and a variety of milk shakes. If you like your burger well done, be sure to specify this as they are definitely cooked with pink in the middle. I liked that I could have my burger wrapped in lettuce and forgo the bun.
I thought the food was tasty, although they were a little less coordinated than I would like in getting the milk shakes and burgers served at least somewhat closely together. And, in fact, a family next to us did not get their shakes until after they had eaten their burgers.
I wouldn't say this place stands out more than any other attractive, tasty gourmet burger place except that they have about 50 local charities they will donate 25 cents to for each burger purchased. I thought that was a good deal.
I thought it was a little overpriced but then again about the same as other gourmet burger places. We spent $35 for two people and went all out for our first visit and ordered burgers, shakes, and fries.
I definitely will put Holy Cow on my rotation of burger places but not necessarily make a special trip back there.
