My family came for a weekend getaway to D.C. We wanted to stay a little bit away from all the hustle and bustle and decided to stay at the Candlewood. I spoke with Menar upon arrival and she was amazing. She upgraded us to a suite because there were 5 of us... That was awesome! Our room was very nice and perfect for our needs. When we left Frederick the manager was personable and thanked us for our stay and my service. I would 100% stay here again. Thanks Candlewood in Alexandria!

We are a military family who moved to Fort Belvoir and needed a place to stay for a couple of weeks while we waited for our home to become available. For us, the price of the suite offered at this hotel combined with the location made staying here the logical choice.
Having said that, the hotel staff was what really made this stay memorable. There was no need that went unfulfilled or any request not granted, even requests that any other hotel would deny for inconvenience.
Our room offered a full-sized refrigerator, stove top, separate bedroom while the hotel boasts free laundry facilities, gym and so on. They even have a check out system where you can obtain anything from exercise gear to board games.
Bottom line, this hotel as a building is not unlike many hotels you have stayed at. It is a place to lay your head and offers all the amenities to increase your comfort. How the staff takes care of you is what makes this place unique and special. I will not stay anywhere else in the future and I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone.

We chose this hotel for it's location (only reason it got it's second star to get to a "poor" rating vs. "terrible") close to Mount Vernon so that we did not have to travel far after spending the day with the Washington's. After finding what seemed to be the last available parking space, we were greeted by a less than friendly desk worker who then proceeded to tell us that the room we had arranged on the IHG priority club website (one queen bed clearly printed on our reservation) was not what we would be getting. He basically implied that we had made the mistake when we reserved the room...not exactly sure how we could have done that as it is THEIR COMPUTER RESERVATION SYSTEM! We got to the room with two full beds with sheets that need to be replaced as they the "holy" and not comfortable. The room itself was clean, but the view out the window was of a Burned out hotel next door. :-( There are very few nearby options for eating out with this hotel so be warned. When we got back from dinner, we again had trouble finding a parking spot and literally got the LAST ONE! The poor lady who pulled in after us was still driving around when we got back up to our room, not sure where she found a place to park. This chain is best for extended stays as they have a complete kitchen, but I will never stay with this chain again when traveling whether it is to be overnight or an extended stay.

Room tip: Rooms on the South side have a depressing view of a burned out hotel next door.

It's decently priced, the rooms are very nice, but the clientele honestly leaves something to be desired. And the barking dogs in the rooms beside you can drive you nuts. I'm surprised and disappointed that this is allowed. I was also disappointed that they messed up my wakeup call. Still, this is a nice location, and the staff tries pretty hard to be helpful.

I checked into the Candlewood Suites on Mon, 6/13/2016. I arrived around noon and was notified by the front desk receptionist my room wouldn't be available until around 3:00 p.m., which was no problem. I figured I would go have lunch and come back. However, prior to leaving I asked the receptionist to point me towards the restroom in the lobby area. I walked into an absolutely disgusting mess of waste in the toilet of the lobby restroom that someone did not bother to flush. That was almost enough to cancel my reservation. However, I just walked right back out and notified the attendant the restroom needed immediate attention. I checked out on Friday, 6/17/2016 without any other major incidents. Fast forward to Monday morning , 6/20/2016 as I'm getting dressed I go to put on a pair of business heels (valued at approx. $89) and realize they aren't in shoe bag. I immediately realized I had left them under the desk in my suite the night before checking out. I contacted the hotel immediately thinking it would be no big deal and they would have the shoes in a lost and found area (it was only 3 days later). Initially, front desk was of no help telling me only housekeeping has that information and I would have to call back between the hours of 9-3. I ended up contacting the toll-free guest relations who contacted the hotel. The hotel called me back during that same evening and told me my shoes were not left at their property. I'm still in the Alexandria area so I have not traveled through a airport or anything else and I am 100% positive those shoes were left under the desk. This means they have a dishonest hotel staff lacking integrity and stealing items. Steer clear of this place.
