I have been to a number of national parks, state parks, and local parks, but Huntley Meadows ranks up there with the best. The Deer Trail offers a great walk through the woods, but the highlight is the Heron Trail. It goes over raised walkways through a marsh, and you get a chance to see all types of animals. We saw some geese with baby goslings, lots of turtles, a heron, fish, tadpoles, and more. There were also impressive beaver dams and a beaver lodge. You wouldn't think you could get such a great nature experience this close to DC, and that makes it more impressive. Expect a lot of walking if you are going to do the full loop, but it's worth it. If I lived nearby, I would be a this park almost every day. Oh, and the people at the visitor center are very friendly and helpful, too. This park was a fantastic experience.
