A great place to take pictures! :D Loved walking down to the waterfront after dinner, and taking in all the beauty. Definitely check it out!

The waterfront opens onto the Potomac River. There's a Charthouse for drinks or dinner and lots of places for strolling. As part of the "Old Town" there are many historic buildings that make it charming. There are many restaurants and shopping opportunities. I agree with the previous reviewer that I wouldn't go out of my way if I had limited time in DC -- much more in the DC area that strikes my fancy. In the summer it must be packed with tourists and a vibrant street scene. If you're in the area, it's worth checking out.

Love this part of Old Town Alexandria. After all Alexandria is a seaport town. Taking a nice walk around where the boats are is really nice, especially in the springtime

After visiting the museums/churches,shopping, and eating at your favorite restaurants at the Old Town Sections of Alexandria, you are now ready to visit the Torpedo Factory Art Center (TFAC) and the River Front.

TFAC used to be a government facility where torpedoes, shell casings and other weapons were manufactured. In 1974, it was converted to an Art Center where various artists create and sell their arts that include ceramics, collage & mixed media, fibers, glass, jewelry, photography, painting & drawing, printmaking, and sculpture. Visitors can watch these artists as they work on their arts, ask questions, and purchase their work of arts.

Ask for a FREE copy of the "Visitors' Guide and Directory" from the receptionist on the ground floor. It would help you easily find these artists and their studios located at the 3 floors of the building.

Outside the TFAC: Sit down at one of the benches located along the River Front. Admire the people passing by and the airplanes getting ready to land at the near-by Reagan/National Airport.

Boat ride to Maryland: Use the water taxi or the Potomac River Company to visit the National Harbor and the Gaylord National Resort. There are shops, restaurants, and hotel at these two places at the other side of the Potomac River (in Maryland). Round trip fares equal $16.00 per person.

Enjoy the arts and the water of the Potomac River!
